I tried out the Omega 7 Hyper today on my Hugo Calderano HAL.
First of all, the setup with Hurricane 3 Neo 40 degree orange sponge was very heavy, around 195g.
The Omega 7 Hyper has the typical black carbo sponge of XIOM and you basically cannot see any pores, it is very dense like a chinese sponge.
Let me tell you one thing, the Omega 7 Hyper is by far the most powerful rubber I have ever used. My typical setup is Hugo HAL with H3N and Dignics 05, and the Omega 7 Hyper is much, much faster and also alot more spinny for me. I have never seen a rubber with this much power, and if you hit the ball well, there is no chance for the opponent to play it back on the table. The Omega 7 Hyper on HUGO HAL is faster than D05 on a Viscaria, that is for sure (I own these setups and compared).
During some drilling I was blocking and my opponent was surprised how fast my blocks were, it is that fast. Also, it has the typical clicking noise of a chinese rubber and the feel when hitting with the O7H is very similar to when I hit my Hurricane 3 Neo. The arc of the O7H was low and long and if I didnt brush the ball well the ball was going in a straight line out, just because I am not used to a rubber that fast and powerful.
Of course, after 2 hours of drilling with it, I quickly realized that the Omega 7 Hyper is way, way too fast for me, even on a moderate blade like Hugo HAL. I cant imagine to use this on a Viscaria type blade. If you are intermediate level or lets say around 1800-2000 USATT, its absolutely pointless to use this rubber competetively, though I must admit using the O7H was the most fun I had in the practise hall for a while, and it put a smile on my face when playing. The shots that I was able to deliver were outstanding compared to my usual setup, and the feel of the ball when I hit it well was very stable and amazing. This rubber however allows no mistakes, it is much much easier to use D05 or D09c or even Hurricane. After playing with the O7H and then going back do my D05, I even thought the D05 had only moderate speed (just the result of a direct comparison).
To conclude, an astounding product by XIOM. I would say the Omega 7 Hyper is not practical to 99% of club level players, but it is just amazing what speed and spin can be achieved with this rubber. If you are looking for a slower alternative that is very spinny and also very controllable, go for the Xiom Omega 7 Asia.
