Butterfly Tenergy 80 FX

Tenergy 80 FX was my first ever Tenergy and I used it on both sides on Joo Se Hyuk blade, not because I am defensive but I am a big fan of him.

This review will be on both Joo Se Hyuk blade and Tenergy 80 FX but the main focus will be on Tenergy 80 FX. Since I used some rubbers before, I made some comparisons as well.

First impression: I had it in 1.9mm sponge thickness and I was pleased with two things. Butterfly no doubt built this rubber to be in its highest quality and I could feel the softness and grippiness of the topsheet right away.

Serving: I was amazed at the amount of spin this rubber is capable to produce. The ball just gets absorbed into the rubber and sponge so I was able to generate tons of spin with minimal effort in my wrist action. However, it is just my personal preference but, I felt that Andro Rasant Grip is a lot softer and grippier than this rubber and helped me more with generating more spin on my serves as well as in match situations.

Match situations: The control was just amazing. The only drawback is the throw angle being a bit low but it is something that can be worked towards to get accustomeed to. Topspin against backspin was reasonably easy but if I had to compare, I would say Tenergy 05 FX or Andro Rasant Grip would be the better options. Despit the tremendous amount of the spin this rubber can exert, the consistency during the matches was the most impressive part of using this rubber.
the topspin drive, blocks and short pushes could be done with ease without any trouble. I can easily imagine this rubber on other blades; I have to say, The Joo Se Hyuk blade's stiffness certainly helped me do some quality, devastating smashes without compromising much control. I would personally recommend using this rubber with some reasonably stiff blades for those keen smashers.

Overall some pros would be, loads of spin without too much effort, consistent control during the match situations, a nice forehand rubber.

The cons are what most would expect. Price! It indeed does cost us fortunes to buy a sheet of this. And... it will take some time to get used to angling due to its trajectory and amount of spin it produces.

From my personal experience, if you are buying rubber for the same price, go for Tenergy 05 FX for intense spin with secure control. Or, if you are for the lower prices, go for Andro Rasant Grip or Andro Backside 2.0C(not the thickness it's the name of the rubber) which are bit slower.

It's packed with some decent control and spin so it would be worth buying this rubber for your first time using Tenergy.

I've used quite a few of the tenergy rubbers and this was my personal favourite. slightly less speed than 80 but more spin was generated and more control as well.

I've used quite a few rubbers in the tenergy series, I found 80fx the best! I felt it was slightly slower than 80 but produced more spin and control.
will definitely be using for a while!

Hi everyone, I've recently swapped rubbers (and blade as well!) and I thought
to leave here at table tennis daily some feedback and comments about the
importance of finding the right match of blade and rubbers to fit your own game style.

Previously I had been playing with Butterfly Innerforce ALC with Tenergy 80 and 05
on forehand and backend. I played with this combination for about 2 years. Since then,
my game has improved somewhat and has also developed into a semi offensive style,
where I make points by a combination of strategies that depend heavily on positional
blocking an counter attacking. As I lack strengh and speed in my most offensive shots
(and I'm still developing/correcting my loop technic, specially on my backend) I try to
add variety in shots in my game. Even though I do like ternegy 05, I had grow to find
it a bit unforgiving and not too tolerant to mistakes. It's was a great rubber when I spinned
with my backend with a perfect technic, but most times, I was not able to do this and adjust,
resulting in an inconsistent game. I've always enjoyed my forehand, ternergy 80. So, at
a recommendation of a friend, I decided two change both rubbers to ternegy 80-fx.
The impact on my game was very visible. If I had to highlight what it has brought into my
game I would say three things: 1) time on the ball, 2) and overall sense of control,
3) and tolerance to my own mistakes when hitting balls. I've now have played with
these rubbers on Jun Mizutani SZLC blade, and I'm very happy. Not only my game has
grown in confidence, but it has also allowed me to keep improving my backend. The ternergy
80-fx feels a lot softer than the 05, and it is really suited my style. Overall, it gives a player
a sense that the ball spends a lot more time on the impact with the rubber, and is clearly
an excellent all rounder. I would particular recommend it to players that are keen on
developing their game through control, other through speed. Since changing to the new
rubbers and blade, my game has improved 10-15% and I'm sure it will continue on that
direction. The most important thing I learned is that is critical for a player to always think
about where their game stands, and think about what rubbers and blades are out there that
can best fit your style, and move it forward. Coaching and practising are very important
but always remember to keep your rubbers updated (and change them frequently) so that
you make the most of it!

Very good spin and speed. all round performance, great control in short game, good feeling when looping. away from the table it has great control with good power and spin.

Durability is not so good, and the price is high but that is butterfly

when someone is saying this rubber is fast is not true .. it is somewhere in the middle .. you need a lot of power in hand. it`s slower than DHS NEO H3 and far from Andro Rasant Grip
But this soft sponge give it a lot of control near the net . Great for opening loops .
Spin is good but not as the Andro R G or DHS H3
Blocking is good and precise.
Overall this rubber is Great for short to table game ,but not to distance play (unless you have a spare arms).
The control from this rubber is incredible, you can return practically all with this rubber .But i can not recommend it to someone who is learning Table Tennis .

ps.: I have played 3 matches with this rubber (both sides 80FX, off- blade) and 3 with my Andro Rasant Grip and DHS NEO H3 (off+ blade). 3 wins for BF 80FX (with great lead ) , and 3 loses (tight) with Andro and H3. But i do not like the softness of the rubber so i will try to go for non FX version (because of lack of the speed)

Similar feeling to the Tenergy 80, just a slightly softer feeling. Excellent on brush shots. Great for slow, spinny opening loops. Nice curly arc to provide large margin of error. Good spin and control for short, spinny pushes and serves.

very fast rubber suitable for the game away from the table. I use it in Max and the sponge is not soft at all, i can't feel the ball sink in even with the new plastic balls.

The FH topspins and the sidespins (far from the table) are amazing as long as you have the proper technique, the BH chops and pushes are risky moves because of its speed and the high throw bounce of the rubber.

The price of the rubber combined with its extreme fragility have become an issue for my tight budget.

I think it's true to say, there is no "best rubber" , another mans meat,, and all that, but in my opinion after using dozens and dozens of rubbers costing me a fortune to experiment over some 20 years now, I've come to settle on t80 fx both sides, for me, it is so forgiving under pressure with the ability to turn a point round to your advantage, I used to play 90pc fh loop drive but this rubber (and a fair bit of practice) has helped me develope the backhand to a similar level, probably 60/40 now.
Its not the fastest, prob not the spiniest (must be close though) but for feel, consistency and General spin/power, it will take some knocking off my top spot!

I like Tenergy 80 FX very much, I use it in 1.9mm

I am a Defensive Player, but I attack everything with my Forehand. I have played with a lot of Rubbers but the Tenergy 80 FX is the best Rubber for my Gameplay.

I can play very easy Touch Play and my attack from the first Ball is very spinny and i can place the ball around the table with good control. I can place the Blocks easy in any side of the table with enough power.

From Distance i never have any Problems to Counter with Topspin.

The most Problems i have before with other Rubbers is when the opponent attacks me with good spin I struggle to handle and block the ball back well. With the T80FX I can keep the ball low due to its dwell time and I can counter topspin when I want to. I have not found another rubber that does this so well.

My search has ended for my forehand rubber. The only thing I think is not so good is the durability. The price for the rubber is ok for me because it is very good. But the durability could be better.
