What a shame or so pity that i can't watch it, do you know any TV channel that will put those games on live? i can watch on TV if i know a channel that it can be aired on a satellite that covers our region, what a point i use this stream live link and every 3-5 seconds it stopped and i miss a lot of points played.

I really feel bad about my life upside down and i can't enjoy TT either playing or watching, so i hope someone can bring a good new for me and let me know if any TV channel that can be seen in middle east will air those games at least important matches live then i will be really happy.

I vote for Ma Long in Men singles side, but with women i can't tell, i was hoping for Liu Shiwen to win but her last games showed as she is not in perform right now, who knows, she might be back in this Championship, and also #1 seed Ding Ning is not in her best time kind of, so i really don't know who will be in full potential in women singles.

So is this event as one big event beside the olympics in table tennis game? all what i know is the Olympics and World cup and world championship, anything else?

Wow already sold out! It is a shame you could not get tickets buddy. Any ideas how many tickets have been sold or how many seats are in the arena?

Hey Dan, like the seat map attached, there are 18 sections with numbers and two special sections for guests and umpires. Three and half sections in the 18 sections are saved for athletes and journalists. The rest fourteen and half sections are available for audience.

Take section 15 as an example, there are 5 rows with 24 seats, 6 rows with 18 seats, two rows with 19 seats and 1 row with 22 seats which sum up to 288. Although the capacity of each section varies by the shape and design, let's assume they are the same for simplicity. So the total tickets available for audiences are about 14.5*288 =4176. So I guess there are more than 4000 tickets on sale which are too few for the large population of Chinese fans! If we include all the other sections, we may assume there are more than 5000 people in the arena.

Seat Map:

Note:
Read area: VIP tickets; Yellow area: first-class tickets; light green area: Second-class tickets; Dark green area: third-class tickets.
Blue area:VIP package; Tan area: first-class package; Burgundy area: Second-class package, Olive area: Third-class package.

If that is so then i should choose "Other" and i have 2 players i should show some support too, but this shouldn't change the fact that top seeded players are kings for votes, at least the first top 5 seed players.

Thanks for this. I thought there was going to be a lot more spectators than 5000. In the 2003 WTTC in Paris I believe their was 12000!

I bet those tickets went in minutes when they were released in China.

I bet those tickets went in minutes when they were released in China.

Woo! That was great in Paris!

Actually table tennis is in great crisis in China. The popularity of table tennis in China is decreasing because people are tired of the dominance of Chinese National Team. Many people criticize the government has spent too much money in table tennis.

Additionally, the majority of Chinese fans prefer sports like football (soccer) and basketball to table tennis now. And our new president Xi Jingping is a big football fan so the focus of the nation has switched to football. They hope to make the Chinese team to World Cup...... that's the highest priority.....

What's even worse, a short sketch in the Sping Festival Party satirize some officials in the government who practice table tennis during office hour to cater to their boss who loves table tennis. An actor made fun of table tennis by saying "refuse eroticism, refuse gambling, refuse drugs, and refuse table tennis" at the end. Although this sketch was trying to mock some officials who suck the boss' ass, it really hurts us table tennis fans by using table tennis as example. Many table tennis players like Wang Hao and Ma Long were pissed off by those words and showed their angry in their sina weibo homepage. But they got even more criticisms from people by saying something like they were too sensitive and they spent too much money from taxpayers to win some “unimportant” titles in this “boring” sport.

I was actually really sad and angry to read those posts. Other than big fans, the ordinary people in China are not attracted by table tennis any more. You won't see a lot of attendance in Chinese Super League and the live of table tennis on CCTV-5 has decreased a lot! What's even worse, no company is willing to sponsor the Super League this year, although the sponsorship was only 30,000,000 yuan ( about 5,000,000 dollars). Actually it also happened in last year's Super League.

So all these things above showed the decreasing popularity of table tennis in China. Playing table tennis is not a cool thing in China now. I guess maybe the organizing committee was also worried about these factors above, so they chose this small expo center.

I'm actually a little surprised to see the tickets has sold out so fast. I hope it to be a great tournament to attract the interest of Chinese sports fans again. I wish more players from other countries show more competitiveness!!!

I really like Chinese players or style, but years after years you feel you don't see anything out of Chinese players for titles, this sure will make it boring after a while, i liked when Timo teamed with Ma Long, but is that just for ads or show off? when we can see ZJK with Samsonov as a team or FZD with Dima, if Asia/Europe is not that most acceptable then why not Asia/Asia but not same country team, say Xu Xin with Mizutani for example, or Ma Long with JSH so i want to see one Chinese offensive with another Korean defensive how it will work.

Anyway, since i was younger or a little kid all the time i was only thinking and believing that Table Tennis is created from GOD for Chinese, and i grew up not watching TT for years because i know nothing will change and China is always in top, but i am trying to learn and enjoy it even if the semi Finals are all Chinese players, they got to this level from nothing, what is Europe doing then to stop that, and what about another asian countries like Korea or Japan, sleeping?

Hopefully the rest of Asia will wake up within 2 weeks in the DOUBLES events at least. Japan, Korea, and Chinese Taipei all have a decent chance of overcoming China in doubles (like they did in 2013, or even in this year's German Open, when Kim minseok and Jung youngsik beat Ma long/Zhang JK).

Wow, i think this is the opportunity for Ma Long, potential semifinal with Fan Zhendong if all goes according to expectations. But in such a strong and long tournament it is hard to tell.
And to be honest i am quite surprised and saddened with these news about table tennis in China. I as a fan don't care which country the best players are from, as long as they compete and produce great matches against each other.

I would not say this is upset. Kenta was my favourite player few years ago, but now I would say he should be ranked about 80-100, the reason why he is so high is he plays a lot tournaments. The same situation was with Seya Kishikawa. Kenta should be replaced with masato shiono, who easily could reach quaterfinals.

I am still thinking the top 3 of men or women will go far, the surprise can happen because at least 1 player can win the title, but i guess as many that the winner will be one of the top 3 or top 4 globally in both singles.

The best doubles match was the Ma/Timo vs. Xu/Zhang, i was hoping for that chinese/german doubles to win, but it didn't happen, hope to see them again in another tours and to see more chinese/non chinese doubles in the future too.

If you are talking about World championships (team and individual, doubles), World Cup and Olympics, then I'm not sure Korea has a lot more. I actually think they have a lot less titles overall than Japan.

Korea has had some Olympic success, but Japan hasn't had any. On the other hand Korea has had little WTTC success, something that Japan has had plenty of.

well, you can check out the head coach of Korea, Yoo Nam Kyu, olympic champion and also his student Ryu Sung Min. Kim Taek Soo and Kim Ki Taek are also legends of Korea and and their peaks were not long ago (almost same generation with Yoo Nam Kyu). The best defensive player ever, Yoo Se Hyuk, is still playing, silver WTTC 2003, which as far as I remember he is the only one defensive player achiving that.

Several upsets in Men's Singles Round 2 according to the rankings...

#56 Patrick Franziska (GER) def. #31 Steffen Mengel (GER) 4-1

Having followed the season in the TTBL (German League) I don't see this as an upset, but rather as a logical consequence of Franziska's development. The world ranking positions don't always tell the truth ;)

well, you can check out the head coach of Korea, Yoo Nam Kyu, olympic champion and also his student Ryu Sung Min.

For your reference:

and tell me what you have got after research on Japan achievement.

OK, here's the breakdown for Japan and Korea in parallell.

If you want the silver and bronze medals in the World championships, please feel free to look around yourself. I was unfortunately unable to find them.

Combined medal tally since the beginning of table tennis time
Korea: 46
Japan: 55

That seems to indicate that my memory might be slightly better than yours.
However, in the greater scheme of things, that doesn't matter one bit :)

And thank you for the video link. It was really nice to see Kim Ki-taik. He and Hyun Jung-hwa are two of my favourite players of all time :)

If you count from the Japan dominance period or from the beginning of table tennis, well I admit that we are actually talking in totally different languages. Since Yoo Nam Kyu Won Olympic champion (1988, Seoul), I barely remember Japanese players winning on big stages. Why I count from that time, because table tennis was in the form that similar to now (similar but not same).
But anyway, your memory is better :) Cheers.

You are right. If you look at the medal count before and after 1988, Korea has definitively won more than Japan since 1988.
In the end, it isn't that important - it's just numbers.
Cheers and enjoy the rest of the championships :)

Hei guys!
I just had a bit of time this morning and thought i should check on ttd what people are talking about.

I'm currently at the WTTC working for the Media and Marketing department at the ITTF. I know many people are unhappy with certain topics and would like to get some more infos about anything i guess.
I'm sitting in the first row for 7 days now and will do so untill after the last match :D after all I'm usually in the venue at 9-10 am and come back to my room at 3-4 am.

Aaaaanyways - i can't reply to all of previous comments and questions but i will try to give you guys some explanations or cool behind the scenes facts :)

On another note:
What did you like very good so far about the WTTC? (can be anything -> matches, "driving" interviews, videos, etc etc)
What did you not like at the WTTC?

Cheers!

Great expereince I'm sure. You're lucky.

From my perspective, only being able to follow on the internet, the ITTF webite is horrible.

Thsi webpage is not even up to date with the result of yesterday's matches, let alone todays: http://www.ittf.com/competitions/test/matches_32_print.asp?competition_ID=2503&s_Event_Type=MS&Rnd1=32&Seq_From1=1&Seq_To1=16&Rnd2=16&Seq_From2=1&Seq_To2=8&Rnd3=8&Seq_From3=1&Seq_To3=4&Rnd4=4&Seq_From4=1&Seq_To4=2&Rnd5=2&Seq_From5=1&Seq_To5=1

Also, live scoring is not updated, and streams are of very poor quality (when they work).

My friends who have bought tickest are quite far from the centre of the venue, where the 2 tables are, and I know they're considering buying binoculars to watch teh game(!)

Finally, ITTF uplaods on youtube are the worst I've seen. Only highlights. Fortunately there are otehr webites where we can find TV uploads.

Mu Zi is impressive ! Next match against Ding Ning could be very tight.
Zhu Yuling have been badly beaten by Liu Shiwen. She've been playing not so good since she has changed her coach. I find it a harsh move from the CNT to change her coach (from Li Sun to Yan Sen) just before the WTTC. Some said that CNT doesn't want Li Sun to have all the Grand Slam players after Wang Nan, Zhang Yining and Li Xiaoxia lol (I think it's not true but I find it funny).
On the other hand, Mu Zi who is coached by Li Sun is doing very well.

Not to look past any of the quarter final matches, but it looks like ZJK has the easiest draw imaginable where he has to play Jun Mizutani and the winner of Franziska and Bo. XX being nocked out really gives ZJK much less competition till the finals. Of course anything can happen but the matches in the top of the draw look much more challenging than the ones in the bottom of the draw.

Mu Zi is impressive !
I totally agree. Despite not having a ranking, she's a top3-5 player without doubt, IMHO.
All credit to Mathilda Ekholm though. She was the lowest ranked player in the last 16, ranked at 76. Despite that she came out full of positivity and went for it. With a bit of luck she could have had a 2-0 lead. That wasn't to be, but even if she had gotten that, I'm still pretty sure Mu Zi would have come through as she's too experienced and too consistent. Mu Zi's lowest playing level is still too high for Ekholm over a full match. The first two games were great to watch though :)

Mu Zi versus Feng Tianwei was a bit of a slaughter though. She was way too superior and I was quite surprised by that. I had expected a closer match.
Anyway, good work by Mu Zi. Let's see how far she can take it :)

Boll and Fan Zhendong will be interesting. Boll has defeated Fan Zhendong in the China Super League. Fan might be a bit to fast and sharp
I have a feeling it's going to be a massacre.

XX is back to G.O.D. mode in Mixed Double with all the tricky shots. As if the lost in the morning to FB has all been forgotten. He must have a great heart. Hope he can continue with all the strength to Men's Double tomorrow. But I bet ZJK don't want to risk injury and jeopardize his Men's Single title like XX did.

The real question is, can Ma Long beat Fan Zhendong? If that matchup happens, that will be the match to watch. Both have a real shot. I believe, regardless of who wins, they will both leave it all on the table going for the win.

By the way, part of why I am saying that, FZD is playing a notch above his regular high level. He gave Koki Niwa 11-2 in the 3rd and 4th games of their match. Koki is pretty darn good to be doing that to. Not that Ma Long isn't playing great. He almost gave JSHook 4-0. But that match between ML and FZD will be a fun one to watch.

2. Only 2. Two. Just like in 2012. 2 for singles and one more for the team event. The person who qualified 3rd is only eligible for the team event, not the singles. And the Olympic trials will determine who qualifies for the singles. The players will have to qualify.

so the world champion will not automatically go to the olympic but decided through trail matches for the 2 places?

My prediction... I am still waiting for ZJK win a close match in the clutch, then as a victory celebration, to do a power kick through an effigy of Adham exploding the thing to tiny pieces and the rest of the CNT standing by with brooms and pans to quickly sweep up the pieces and Adham himself on the sidelines clapping in tribute giving maximum points for wonderful and energetic presentation.

Streaming quality is really awful. It is plain pain to watch online-stream.

Streaming for most games freezing for 10 seconds every 5 seconds. Audio is disappearing even more frequently than video.
And it's not only for QF, that happened for most table 1 games!
I believe that it is not ITTF fault but laola1.tv's, which provides internet streaming. But still, ITTF should look into this issue and either make laola fix things, or switch streaming provider.

Also, there were problems with camera for table 4 and some other table was constantly shaking.

And worse, videos going to youtube channel have all this "features" and have even worse quality than streaming.

It would be nice for someone at ITTF to address these issues.

So Ma Long is having a rest today as he played his QF match yesterday while Zhang Jike is playing singles now and also the doubles with Xu Xin 2 hours later because Ma Long with Timo Boll are out already.

What is your guys opinion. Do you think it'll put Zhang Jike in disadvantage having to play two matches today while Ma Long is resting before tomorrow's SF because it might be a bit too strenuous for him while Ma Long can take some time and rest. Or maybe rather Zhang Jike will keep in the "zone" and more determined having played singles and doubles now and being more prepared for tomorrow SF? It is quite possible that Zhang Jike could be a little bit more tired than Ma Long tomorrow especially after playing the doubles later on today.

What do you mean by rest today?

All 4 quarter finals was played today. And the semis will be played tomorrow. That means they played 1 match each. No one gets a days extra rest. Only a few hours, since Ma Long played earlier than Zhang Jike.

Of couse Zhang Jike will have to play doubles final later, so that means even less rest. Besides his shoulder issues he looks in great shape. Always topping at the great events. So mentally strong. Impressive how he keeps doing it.

Blessing in disguise. Ding Ning won because of her own injury.
The injury time totally throws Liu Shiwen concentration and focus off.
Hate to say this, but I think Liu Shiwen deserve to win a bit more.
For me, myself, I "hate" to play someone that is injured or sick, if you know that kind of feeling.

Congrats to Ding Ning and for her will to keep fighting, but... in my opinion it is not nice victory.

I can imagine how hard for Liu it has to be to keep fighting when you know that Ding Ning is being a hero with every win or lost point.
And knowing that if you even will win everybody after championship would say your opponent was injured so she couldn't show her best...

So this isn't a way to win championships, but still congrats to winner.
