China’s Wang Hao and Guo yeo lead the Men’s and Women’s singles seeding’s for the Volkswagon China Open. This is the ninth ITTF Pro Tour of 2011 and begins on Wednesday 15th with the finals held on the 19th June 2011 which is a Sunday. To follow this amazing event you can watch it on livestream with integrated chat by clicking HERE (http://www.tabletennistalk.co.uk/forum/ttt-stream.php)

Men’s Singles

Wang Hao leads the men’s singles. Will he win? Or will Zhang Jike maintain his current form after winning last month’s World Table Tennis Championships? Perhaps, Xu Xin or Jun Mizutani can take it. So many to choose from, the national team veterans Wang Liqin and Ma Lin may produce a surprise for us.

Timo Boll is not in the China Open, to which I am not so sure why. Perhaps a TTD member can answer this.

Wang Hao
Zhang Jike
Ma Lin

It will be a fascinating tournament, without doubts! I think, the competition will be quite tight, however, I see Ma Long claiming the trophy in Shenzhen! 马龙,加油! He's been in good shape lately since WTTC.
On the ladies side, I bet on Liu Shiwen :)

06-14-2011, 05:41 AM
It will be fun to see what happens but I think anything can happen. Will Ma Long win? I hope he does well. It would be fun to have Ma Long and Xu Xin in the finals. Not likely though.

06-14-2011, 09:53 AM
I hope Ma Long will win in an epic final against Wang Hao or Zhang Jike :D In the womens I root for Liu Shiwen ♥ BUT I think Gou Yue will win
It's weird that Timo will not compete in China Open because he is in China for CTTSL
If I were Timo I would go there but he doesnt want to lose world ranking points :D

06-14-2011, 12:45 PM
Nathan van der heiden will win for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!

06-14-2011, 03:29 PM
Timo's involved in a series of exhibtion matches all over Germany, which makes it impossible for him to participtae at the China Open.

06-14-2011, 04:45 PM
I think Wang Hao will win, but I root for both Ma Long & Zhang Jike.
I mostly hope we get nice HD videos to drewl upon... :D

06-14-2011, 05:19 PM
I wonder why Ma Long leads every poll in this forum, we apparently have a huge amount of Ma Long fans here :D
Since he hasn't won any tournament recently I don't understand why he would be a favourite for this one.

06-14-2011, 05:28 PM
Yea I noticed that too. I always considered him a pretty standard player, of course with great technique and insane skill. But I prefer playing styles that look more effortless, like Zhang Jike's or Oh Sang Eun's. Too bad a lot of people find that look lazy haha.

06-14-2011, 05:42 PM
Ma Lin and Wang Liqin are my favourite players, but to be honest they won't beat Ma Long, Jike and Hao in my opinion. Anyway.. I voted for Ma Long!! ;-)

06-14-2011, 05:59 PM
This is not about the respective styles and which player you like..
I just wonder if people really think that he's gonna win :D

06-14-2011, 06:03 PM
ofc he will win ;) , and you root always for Wang Hao ......
he killed Zhang at CTTSL

06-14-2011, 06:17 PM
It's still not about rooting for a player, I'm more than okay with that.
But Wang Hao won the last tournament before the WTTC and made it to the final of the WTTC so I think he'll have a good shot as winning it.
I just want an explaination why you think that Ma Long is gonna win :)
I want to start a serious discussion, not insult anyone :D

*at (I strangely can't edit my post)

06-14-2011, 06:37 PM
Sorry that my first post in this forum wasn't your standard.
I think everyone can vote the one he want and its still in my objective opinion that ma long will win. Otherwise I am not checking every statistics of the players, who won last month and who won before 2 month. but i watched a ma long match today of the china superleague where he play against xu xin. was really nice. and i think he will have a chance against zhang jike and wang hao.

06-14-2011, 06:47 PM
That's what I wanted to hear, thank you :)

06-14-2011, 07:09 PM
ma long vs xu xin in finals or ma long vs wang hao, or ma long vs zhang, or zhang vs wang,or xu xin vs zhang ,or xu xin vs wang hao

06-14-2011, 08:03 PM
Irgendwann muss er auch mal wieder gewinnen und meistens ist es doch dann im Sport, wenn man die Person abgeschrieben hat :)

06-14-2011, 10:52 PM
@david93fcb Sorry posts cannot be edited at this time... had a problem with updating the site and pluggins have conflicted. It will be working back to normal by the weekend.Back to why Ma Long is the most Favourite voted... perhaps its due to the sites image... it may just reinforce people to hit Ma Long :).. I actually do think tho he is going to win this one! Plus Wimbledon soon :)

06-15-2011, 07:20 AM
Hmm the thing is nobody knows in what form they are gonna show up. Maybe after the first round everyone will say Chen Qi ;). But until u can make a decision based on the current form of the players (which can change every tournament) I think there is nothing wrong with wishful thinking :). Zhang Jike all the way.

06-15-2011, 12:49 PM
So, Dan, you're saying that Ma Long is gonna win Wimbledon? :D
No, seriously, I'm really excited about these tournaments :)

06-15-2011, 02:59 PM
A lot of people like Ma Long because he is fun to watch. I love watching Ma Long. If his backhand and his intelligence and strategy catch up to his forehand nobody stands a chance. :) I would love to see Ma Long vs Xu Xin. That would be my choice. I love both of them. But I think it will be Zhang Jike and Wang Hao again. I think, tactically, they are the two smartest players and I think they are the best at serve and receive which is where most of the points are won or lost. With the top players though, anyone could win on any given day. There is no clearly dominant player in the top 6 or 7.

06-15-2011, 03:22 PM
Zhang Jike, no doubt.

06-15-2011, 05:42 PM

If you see Tang Peng against the world's top-10 it always looks like he really really sucks.

06-18-2011, 12:54 PM
Zhang Jike all the way.

Allowed to laugh ? MUHAHA :D

06-18-2011, 12:58 PM

Quarter Finals of the Men's singles

06-19-2011, 10:40 AM
The maestro beat Ma Long finally since 2008...he was in another league. Leading ma Long in game 5, though the younger player showed great resilience to claw back and winning the 5th. The 6th and d final set was all Ma Lin. Excellent quality match, and it was worth staying at home rather than going out to do the groceries with the missus, and she's not pleased with it hahaha.

06-19-2011, 01:40 PM

Want to see these kind of matches again !

06-19-2011, 02:01 PM
Lol, nobody voted for Ma Lin.

06-19-2011, 02:13 PM
Ma Lin !!!

06-19-2011, 04:18 PM
Man, I must say, the outcome of the men's singles finals was a surprising, but pleasant one. Ma Lin hardly ever beats Ma Long these days, so it was definitely a welcome change. When Ma Lin's playing at this top, he is the epitome of all that makes penhold style great.

06-19-2011, 05:08 PM
Ma Lin played absolutely superb It was a nice match. No one voted for Ma Lin :D

06-19-2011, 08:07 PM
I think Ma Long is coming back. Played really well. Unfortunately he didn't win these China Open 2011.
The funny thing is that Ma Lin won and nobody voted for him xD He played good too but I had the impression that he wasn't playing at 100% and with an attitude like: "He's too bad, I'm gonna win without problem" Something in that way.. Looked like a bit arrogant to me ... (Ma Lin fans (I think there aren't many here ^^) don't get offended ^^)

06-19-2011, 08:35 PM
Rhy I am a big Ma Lin fan he is my second favourite after Ma Long but all in all all chinese players a badasses and freakin' cool
I had a completly different impression of Ma Lin today: he was very calm ( for his standards?) and he grimaced very often but he didnt look arogant to me :)
Every has a different opinion and this is good otherwise we would not hold this discussion and we would never get in contact but through table tennis everything is possible ! :D

It was a great match and my friend who dont understand table tennis that much was amazed by the MA's

06-19-2011, 08:44 PM
Hey ;D
I'm not saying that he was arrogant during the whole match, but in some sequences he was (for me ^^)
Yeah, he was very calm and consistent. He knew what he was doing and what he should do.
I didn't watch the whole match, only the highlights. Amazing ^^

Yeah, you're right. That's what makes a sport :) Different opinions and fair play! That's what I like. ;D

06-20-2011, 12:04 AM
@Rhydian : Ma Lin is not at all arrogant just that his "game face" looks that way ...
I am not sure but probably you are thinking so because he did not attempt to block some of the wide forehand cross courts from Long. But that is the way he plays. He is a master of the third ball attack and plays from the back hand corner like traditional penhholders. Time and again I have seen him give up on wide cross courts if he thinks he cannot get it, so that is not something to judge him by.
... check out the reportage on Ma Lin and you will get a sneak peek into his thinking , I have never seen a guy apologize because he got into the team even after being beaten :) ...

06-20-2011, 08:28 AM
yeah, maybe it's just that. That could be "his pokerface" while playing table tennis ^^
I saw the reportage, really good. Of course, he is a great player, just think about the semi-final against Wang Hao. Crazy game!
Maybe it was just my first impression or because I wanted Ma Long to win ^^

06-20-2011, 09:05 AM

06-20-2011, 09:44 AM
that video is great ^^

06-21-2011, 12:01 PM
Haven't watch the whole match of Ma Lin vs Ma Long yet, didn't watch it live before I totally missed it by accidentally. But after watched the short form, Ma Lin just play like his young days with additional improvement of BRP. You can see that a few execution of attack right after serving did put a lot of pressure on Ma Long for how to return his serve. This just same as the old days of 1999 WTTC on how he won Waldner.

06-23-2011, 07:04 PM
Ehm where can see the text results?
What did Zhang Jike in the singles?
