Perfect combination ZLC Tenergy 80 2.1 worth the money. I'm very confident on my attack, side spin and loop. A lot better than T05 in performance wise. Thickness is one of the key is selecting a rubber also. I can see that a lot of players will switch to T80. Recommended to all offensive players. 5 STARS

i used this bat for the last 2 1/2 years to get into state representation in WA
Blade: Stiga Master Active
Fh: Donic Acida S1
Bh: Donic Baracuda

i'm going to use a bat that my very caring uncle bought me two years ago for another year or so in nationals :~)
Blade: DHS Ma Long
Fh: Tenergy 64
Bh: Hurricane 3 (H3)
hopefully this set-up with have better control, spin and power. however, the bat will be heavier by about 20g due to the heavy hurricane and tenergy rubbers.

since returning to table tennis i've used the following :

dhs hurricane king 3
fh : dhs hurricane 3 neo provincial 39 degree
bh : donic coppa x3 silver

i destroyed the fh rubber by hitting too hard and the rubber detaching from the sponge. the backhand rubber i destroyed by clipping the edge of the table and taking out a massive chunk near the top of the blade, replaced it with a new piece of coppa silver.

then i decided i wanted an all wood blade as the king felt a bit "mushy", so i bought the following :

dhs pg7 flared
fh : dhs hurricane 3 neo provincial 39 degree
bh : yinhe moon pro

also got a stiga clipper cr non-wrb in case i didn't like the pg7 ... but i really like the pg7 so the clipper is sitting sulking in my cupboard.

got 2 pieces of dhs hurricane 3 neo national blue sponge 40 degree as i wanted to see what the difference was to my non-blue sponge provincial. they are sitting in my cupboard waiting for me to make up my mind and get a hurricane long 3 or just stick with my pg7. i'll also be looking to try out tg3 blue sponge ... maybe also the old topsheet national h3 and tg3 too.

help ... i think i've been bitten by the ej bug again ;)

New Setup as of last Thursday (July 18, 2013).

Stiga Clipper, Master Flair Handle. This is the Classic Clipper, no CR and no WRB.
FH: Xiom Sigma II Pro; Black
BH: Xiom Sigma II Europe; Red

The blade is one I used to use about a year and a half ago. For the last year and a half I have been using an Off-/All+ blade for more control, dwell time and spin. In truth, this blade does not feel that much faster than the Stiga Allround Evolution I was using last week. Just a little.

And the rubbers are not too much of a switch either. I was using Xiom Omega IV (Black-Pro for FH and Red Europe for BH). The Sigma is about the same speed, perhaps a little slower, it grabs the ball differently but gets the same amount of spin, perhaps a little more, but it has much more control and is much less jumpy. The Sigma II also has a much bigger CLICK SOUND, so you can feel the "glue effect" more with the Sigma II.

But both are really good rubbers.

My new setup, I decided to go back to a Clipper. I will see how using a faster blade goes again goes.

Stiga Clipper Classic Master Flare
FH: Black Hurricane III NEO
BH: Red Tenergy 25

Ooh, how does the Tenergy 25 feel on the Clipper? I have tried an Acuda on that before and it felt quite steady :D

Actually, back when I had that setup, the Tenergy 25 felt great on the backhand on my Clipper. I boosted the heck out of it and it was nice and soft and spinny. I bet Tenergy 25FX would feel awesome. I have a friend who uses that for his backhand and swears by it. I like 05FX as well for backhand.

But my newest setup:

Same Clipper
FH: Xiom Sigma II Pro-Black
BH: Xiom Sigma II Europe-Red

Is really good. There is a great speed glue sound and feel with this rubber; it has a lot of control and a ton of spin, and, the speed is there.

hm Carl, which clipper is cheap and good (not need to be best). The WRB or the classic or whatever?

Talk about the setup, I have only switched my BH rubber from Boost TS/TC to thibar nimbus soft. Reasons are thibar weight is lower, and is softer, and also much more durable. But right now I have an hard time to restock it, so probably had to switch to 1Q or aurus. This same go to my FH rubber, since there is no any stock for TG2 Neo in south east asia region, so I just got on G1 on my hand for future change.

So now:
Yasaka YEO
FH: TG2 Neo (will be nitakku G1 after few months)
BH: Thibar nimbus soft (will be aurus or 1Q or?)

Oh that's great :D not many people appreciate T25 these days I've found. What booster did you use?
I am yet to try the Xiom rubbers, might give it a try when I step out of nationals practice hahaha :)

I just did the baby oil and paraffin version of boosting. I definitely got the right expansion of the sponge and I definitely got the sponge softer.

I just like the most simple Clipper. No CR, no WRB, just a Classic Clipper. But, if you are looking for less weight in a backhand rubber, you should know, a Clipper is not a light blade. They are usually over 90 grams and can run from 90-100 grams. Perhaps even higher. The Clipper I am using is 91 grams and it feels like the lightest a Clipper could be while playing like a Clipper. If it was any lighter it would not feel like a good blade.

As far as forehand rubber, if you are having trouble finding TG3, you might try Tibar Grip-S which is Blue Whale topsheet with German sponge. I have heard good things about it.

What do you think is best to have on the backhand to have the same effect as tenergy in terms of spin (and it pops up really wel when I flick or topspin and I like to push very hard with a load of spin) but has a bit more control, as I have difficulties blocking the ball with the backhand. My countertopspin with my forehand is way better than a simple backhandblock, which is kinda weird. Better = more on the table

first i played the butterfly peter korbl blade which was really good for its price but i missed the power.. so i switched to the timo bolls alc .. and the difference was so huge .. all my thoughts about the blades don't have to do that much were gone :p.. my first attempts with this blade were horrbible .. all my topspins were placed over the table and i really thought : why did i buy this blade ? .. but after like 2 -3 weeks i felt very comfortable with it and i can say this blade is really cool im used to play it now and i got the same feeling with alc than with peter korbl even if the blade is much faster :D .. ahja the rubbers, Im playing andro rasant 2.1mm on forehand and andra rasant powersponge 2.1mm on backhand, perfect combo for me atm :). I tried butterfly tenergy when i started to play tabletennis and i couldnt play it,, it was like 3 years ago or something and perhabs cos i thought this rubber has to be good because timo boll plays it :) Maybe im able to try it now , since i improved my skills past 3 years. Are there similaries between the Tenergy and the normal rasant? anyone has played both? Im very interested:) And guys tell me if im talking to much. im a Table tennis addict.. its really crazy .. and pls have understanding for my horrible english . cheers

I am an old fart who has just come into the sport recently, but I am enjoying the exercise and friendship within our little club.
The array of blades and rubbers is bewildering to a beginner as most here will know.
Starting with a Donic that I picked up for a few dollars moving on to a DHS 2002 premade and tomorrow using for the first time a custom bat just received.
It is a Dawei Crystal Carbon King 3000+
Fitted with Hurricane II on the forehand side...(black)
Hurricane III on the backhand.... (red)

I have not idea how it will go, if it will suit, or if I will enjoy this rig.
However I do know that it will not be the equipment that determines my level of play.
"The more I practice the luckier I get."
Best wishes from New Zealand.

I'm another of those old farts who has recently returned to playing after a break of a mere ( ahem ! ) 30 years or so - long story. I currently have two blades :-

Blade 1 - my trusty old Stiga Contra Super Carbon as purchased @1980. This used to have Yasaka Tornado on both sides - that's right, the orange one - and when I returned to playing I re-covered it with Tibhar Aurus on both sides. Why ?? Trade-off between speed/spin and cost.

Blade 2 - A Giant Dragon Super Balsa II with Superspin G3 soft on B/H and Superspin G3 Hard on F/H, which I purchased about a month ago. I chose this because the Stiga, although a lovely bat, has quite a thin and dainty handle and I wanted to try something a bit thicker and more suited to a man's hand.

I try to get use out of both blades. Currently though I'm favouring the Giant Dragon as I'm finding when I use the Stiga/Tibhar combo I'm having trouble controlling my B/H pushes, they all seem to be going high and long - I'm thinking Aurus is maybe a bit lively for my B/H. Also having started to use a larger blade I find I keep missing the ball with the smaller one !!!

Hi Amayzde,
is a tad faster than the HL3. Still has a wood feel with speed and block characteristics of a composite blade.

I've got Long 3 (penhold) and I felt that I'd rather have Rasant on BH than 05

I couldn't really feel the difference between them, and rasant is considerably cheaper :)

Basically National versions Hurricanes are custom made, with both rubber and sponge hardness specially made for the CNT (china national team). Commercial or (normal) ones have lower quality control process, making them cheaper. They vary a lot on hardness, and sometimes topsheet quality. Commercial ones will cost about $30 and National and Provincial will cost about $60-$80.

BTY says that Timo Boll plays, in terms of the quality, the same T05s like consumers.
Unfortunately that isn't true like i found out two years ago when I had the opportunity to attend a trial-practice of the nationalteam at the Werner Schlager Academy. At that time I used TSP Rise as my forehand-rubber, T05 as my backhand-rubber and the Boll Spirit as my blade, but I asked me if I should play the T05 on the FH as well, so played a bit with the racket of one of my trainingpartners, who played the Boll Spirit with the T05 on BH and FH, and his rubber had way more tension than mine, so I asked him if he had speed-glued or boosted his rubber, because there was such a difference between those two rubbers, he though said that he hadn't done any of those things. From that point I knew that there are rubbers special-made for the pro's and rubbers of lower quality for consumers.

Bloody H*ll BTY is THE BEST at doing this sort of thing.

The Japanese stocks with JP serial numbers (both blades and rubbers) are much coveted here in taiwan.

Why? Because they rarely deviate from the quality of their original designs.

Now I know BTY has the BEST QC and Machining technics of all blade makers but then again the will always be pieces that just..doesnt feel right, or is flawed (I recently bought a piece of T80. the surface simply does not grip the ball at all. I got a free replacement from the shop. It was SEA stock)
This kind of stuff wont show up until youve reached the stage where you actually started playing and in most cases, cant refund the product.

So by buying a brand new piece of product that you know comes from Japan will give you the peace of mind knowing that it cant go too bad, right?

Also, it was proven by a taiwanese collector who bought 3 Vis STs from the same batch of Taiwanese stock and another 3 from a random equipment shop in Japan, that the taiwanese stock actually does not feel as powerful. He had a rating of 2390 back in those days so I trust his feelings.

They simply keep the good stuffs in Japan and give the cherry picked pieces to their sponsored players. Now I am not sure if other companies do the same thing as to keeping the good stuffs in their home nation, but I am sure that every one of these manufacturers does the latter.

I had this classmate back in Singapore who was a provincial u-15 team player, coming to singapore with full ride scholarship
He brought a Tube Alu with him, which he said was issued to him from the team. He was forced to replace it with a consumer one when that blade's core gave way due to the hefty amount of training we had. He sold it off after one single day going for a custom BTY. He said, actual quote, translated from chinese, "That new tube just does not have the strength as the old one."

I'm currently using a Xiom Solo blade with Acuda S2 on both sides and I rly like this setup because it's great for loops, blocks and still puck a bit of a punch. In fact I like the blade so much I just ordered a second one but this time with Omega 4 Pro on it just to see how that rubber plays. :)

Also Owner of: Yasaka Silver Line Carbon and Yinhe/Galaxy W8.

EDIT: Currently using:
Since the above, I have also used Adidas Tenzone Ultra on FH, which I liked better than bluefire. But prefered MX-P (below) slightly due the spin/beast loops, blocks felt easier with Tenzone Ultra though.
Hurricane Hao III;
FH: Tibhar Evolution MX-P
BH: Adidas P7 (a bit too hard sponge for this blade I believe)
Soon to change into: MX-S (for testing wether to keep MX-P or this) and Tibhar Aurus BH.

Timo Boll ALC (since day one of the blade release) ST
Vega Japan 2.0
Vega Japan 2.0

Advice from my coach : since i train less than 3 hours a day, 6 days per week -> get a bat less head heavy and use more soft rubbers.

Testing arriving : Photino light 70-71gr, Hayabuza Zxi 79gr, MJ zlc 82gr with Tenergy 64 fx 1.9 and 1.7. Still waiting for Tenergies to arrive, have all the blades. All blades selectied and tested in china by my coach b4 he purchased them for myself. Also he choosed them in FL handle, since he wants to make some modifications on my FH loop (more "elasticity" less "pure strength"), FL handle has been adviced by my coach.

Will start with photino light + T64fx both sides, racket of my profil. From tomorrow i hope :D

Blade - Tibhar Stratus Powerwood
FH - H3 Neo
BH - TG2 Neo

Just ordered up some new rubber to try, will be keeping the same blade. Switching to
FH - Donic Baracuda
BH - Xiom Vega Euro

I like the TG2 so far, but the H3 seems to be pretty touchy and unforgiving if I'm off a bit. Looking forward to trying some euro style rubber.

Blade: Blades by Ed - Single Play Red Cedar

I found that good Canadian Red Cedar comes close to Hinoki wood for single ply blades. When I say "good" it means the wood has to be tight-grained, vertical grained and air dried. At a thickness of 7.5 mm to 8 mm the blade will give just slight vibration for good feedback and dwell time. It feels quite soft but is surprisingly fast. I just love playing with it and many other players around here do so as well.

I have bought my blades from a contact from China. It is difficult to check custom blades from DHS if they are genuine, because they don't have any serial nor holographic sticker. TTNPP are reputable dealer, but I don't know if they the blade are genuine or not.

I think you should try to sand your mm blade.
youll get the glue off like it was never there use a fine sanding paper tough something like p280.

i use donic acuda s3 max on FH and 2.0 on BH
this is a soft rubber so the ball really sinks into the rubber wich results in good spin and you can really feel the ball alowing better controle
