Nice :D

I have a butterfly viscaria to sell.. i moved onto the TBS,, whats the butterfly raystorm rubber Baal?

Viscaria is great, do you find its fast, i.e if someone is lobbing its good to smash with ?

Baal
11-03-2010, 02:58 AM
Raystorm is the spinniest short pip rubber in existence. They play closer to inverted than any other pip. I have used SP on my BH for many years now, and these are the best for me, since they are actually quite spinny and very controlled, and because my technique is still not a perfect for SP, even after years. I don't 100% of the time take the ball at the optimum height for SP. Raystorm lets me get away with this without sacrificing a quality shot in a way that something like Spectol would never forgive. It is a good choice for people who were not trained to play with SP since they were kids. I find Viscaria very well balanced in speed, weight distribution, and general feeling. It is definitely fast enough to annihilate a lob. It is stiff enough for crisp hitting and blocking, while soft enough for good dwell time when spinning. The weight is right where I like it (about 90 g). Even though it is soft, the stiffness still matches my SP backhand nicely. The very first time I hit with a friend's a few years ago, that night I bought two of them. TBS is nice too, I could easily switch to one of those without too much adjustment and I like its flared handle, which is actually a bit more optimally shaped for my hand than Viscaria. Viscaria is a bit softer. I think the blade speeds are rather similar.

My setup must suit my style which is quite rare.

For me the most important is the blade and the one I play with is now Stiga Hybrid Wood NCT, which being pretty hard and fast has amazing control. When I destroyed my 30 years old beloved BY Bercik de Luxe I have tested a few blades and prefer this Stiga more than others, the best I had the occasion to play with being BY Timo Boll ALC (excellent bounce but grip too thin and balance to much towards the head), Tibhar Stratus Power Wood, Andro Kinetic off, TSP Blazze off (nice, I keep it as reserve).

The FH (not always, as I flip) rubber is now Tenergy 64, but it's just because I need a red one and I have one, next I will switch to a black T05 (which I already have), I can switch to any other rubber without major problems, surely provided they have decent quality. Already played with bryce, bryce speed, sriver G3, stiga boost ts, haifu blue whale II national (excellent but a bit too heavy). I bought my both Tenergy rubbers cheap and unless I find such an occasion again, next year when the rubbers I have wear out I will switch to something else.
I’ve read with interest the thread about replacement for Tenergy but I think it’s more the hand that plays and not the rubber and if anyone wants to follow the best pros, please notice they play much better than we do with whatever equipment they are paid for.

On the contrary the BH rubber is very important to me, as I attack with long pips, which requires the right setup, otherwise it becomes very difficult or virtually impossible. And thanks to Welie (a real attack LPs specialist active on another TT forum www.tabletennistalk.co.uk) I believe I found it: It's a combination of a soft and fast Japanese sponge 1.8mm (in this case Blutenkirsche) with an OX Giant Long on it, but I checked: Globe 979 works practically the same way (OX on the same sponge) but is very perishable - I lost several pips after 3 training sessions and I am going to try Cloud&Fog III on the same sponge, should also work and the rubber is known for its drability.

I wonder if anybody has a similar experience with attack LPs and could perhaps advise some different setup?

I used to use a Stiga Clipper with Tenergy 05. I have tried a lot of blades. Any time someone has a blade that is one of the hot new ones like the Timo Boll ALC or ZLC I see if I can get them to let me try it. A few months ago it was recommended for me to use the same rubbers with a slower blade that had more control and more dwell time so I could get more spin on my loops and short game. When I did that, it took a very short time (an hour or so training with the new set up, to get used to it) for my level to jump considerably. At first I did not have as much power and speed on my shots, but I could get a lot more spin on the ball and place the ball with much more accuracy. It also forced me to take a fuller stroke so my strokes improved very quickly after I changed setups. The end result was that, once I was really used to it, I no longer miss the extra speed and power at all because my strokes are so much better.

The person who made this recommendation gave me a Butterfly Primorac (5 plys, all wood, rated offensive minus). It has more than enough speed, especially when you add the speed and spin of tenergy. And I can feel the ball on the racket for so much longer when I hit my shots. In USATT rating I am about 1600/1700. I think a good offensive player will do well with a slower blade until their rating is around 2000/2100 and then the faster blades make more sense for the development of your game.

Also, I like all wood blades. You can feel what you are doing with the ball while it is on the racket much better with an all wood blade than with a carbon blade. I love the way some of those carbon combo blades like ALC or ZLC feel and they really do let you keep a high level of speed while keeping really good dwell time. But, even though you do not lose the control or the dwell time and you have all the speed, I feel like you cannot feel the ball on the racket quite as well with that kind of blade as you can with an all wood blade.

I have a feeling that the next world champion will be using one of those new technology composite blades. But so far, I do not think there has been one world champion who used a blade with Carbon or another composite in it. Person, Waldner, Gatien, Kong, Guoliang, Liqin, Hao, I believe they were all using wood when they won. I think this is interesting.

I recently used a Cornilleau Hinotec All+ and it was amazing. More than enough speed and power and I don't think I have felt any blade with as much dwell time or control. It had this great springy quality where you could feel the ball sink in, stay and then jump out with this nice snap that I love like a good Swedish blade. I will probably switch to that at some point. I would do it right off the bat but what I have is really quite good for me.

Hi Robin,
I find this very interesting. I've recently (6 months ago) switched to Tenergy 64 (max) on FH from my earlier Tibhar Torpedo.

I wonder sometimes, whether i should have switched to Tenergy 05 instead.

My game has 3 parts: defense from 4 ft away / defence at the table (Phantom 007 on the BH, i'm one of the best in India with this rubber) & attack with Tenergy 64 (late topspin/topspin on the rise/flat finish for a high ball).
Since i'm constantly twirling the racket, i'm able to do all 3 above from both flanks. Its my fate to hear lots of cuss words from my opponents! :)
I even topspin with my Phantom 007 from my FH, a winner every time!

In view of the above styles of play, what would be the difference between Tenergy 05 and Tenergy 64 for all 3 positions above. Should i change or not? What will be the trade-off?

I'll be really grateful for your advice as this Tenergy is a bit beyond my budget to experiment with, as i'm now retired from work!

Hi Cadoce,

I wonder sometimes, whether i should have switched to Tenergy 05 instead.

My game has 3 parts: defense from 4 ft away / defence at the table (Phantom 007 on the BH(>10 years), i'm one of the best in India with this rubber) & attack with Tenergy 64 (late topspin/topspin on the rise/flat finish for a high ball).
Since i'm constantly twirling the racket, i'm able to do all 3 above from both flanks. Its my fate to hear lots of cuss words from my opponents! :)
I even topspin with my Phantom 007 from my FH, a winner every time! It's great to watch the opponent's face when i do that! :)

By the way, i use the 729 Two-speed carbon ply as that gives me a lot of pluses: I get a better wrap effect with the 007, i get a differential speed between the 007 & the Tenergy when i attack, i get excellent drop blocks with the 007.

I'm seriously considering changing from 007 to get a little more punch in my LP shots. I've shortlisted the following rubbers: Cloud & Fog III (good spin reversals & wobble effect but short life), / DoubleFish 1615 Powerplay (O, very soft small dia pimples, good spin reversal and control in attack, consistency / Tibhar GrassD Tec5 (also soft LP, similar to 1615, but a little less consistency in attack but more control in block defence and chop)

Is there any other ply with sufficient speed in attack like a 729 2speed carbon. This blade is no longer available in Bombay due to lack of demand! I heard that Stiga has a one-side carbon ply with good attack possibilities. Price here is around Rs. 2500 (Rs 45=1 US$)

Looking forward to more of your posts. Its refreshing to read intelligent posts like yours. :)

Hi yellow-strike

Can you explain why you use Tenergy 64 on the FH and Tenergy 05 on the BH?
Most players use Tenergy 05 for the FH and Tenergy 64 for the BH.
I'm very interested in your reasons for your choice.
What exactly do you feel about these two rubbers? How long have you used this combination? What has been the benefits to your game and has there been any dis-advantages in doing this?

Glad to know you are enjoying your TT. That is of utmost importance. :)

Hi Carl,
I'm shocked at the discovery that no world champion uses carbon ply! Dan, if you're reading this, can you throw some more light on this. Maybe, a list of world champions with the blade and rubber combinations they used at that time, would be helpful though it might be a challenge to collect that kind of information!

Carl,
wish you all the best in your rise up the rankings!

Hey ddudhane

Your game sounds very effective and entertaining!

I have tried both tenergy 05 and 64 on the forehand, what I found was a number of differences. The tenergy 64 is slightly softer then the 05 so your able to have that bit more control and less effort to get the ball on the table. I personally think it also has a little bit less spin this the 05 to. But never the less 64 is a great rubber, Jun Mizutani is using it and he is fantastic! Jun goes back from the table a lot, so he needs this sort of rubber as it gives him feeling away from the table. If he used Teneregy 05 with his game he would really struggle.

I think this would be the same in your case. As your a defender, you will need some control away from the table on your forehnad. I.e. Topspin way back from the table on the forehand. I dont think you need an attacking rubber like the 05 on the forehand like an up to the table attacker would use. As you say your doing very well with the 64 so dont change it. If things are going bad then make a change.

chugtai, i think tenergy 64 has a similar problem of chipping from the edges as it is also a soft rubber.

you could try the good old Butterfly Sriver or Sriver FX which did not have this problem. There is good spin and control, but not as much speed as a tenergy.

many sites have charts showing spin, speed and control of different surfaces, but they do not have any indication of the durability of these rubbers.

If you do decent blocking of topspins, you could try a harder sheet like in the Bryce series. It will give you a good punch but not that good a loop.

All the best in your efforts to improve, Chugtai.

Long pimple same for year and a half. I am self-taught player, I had no professional training and I am among the top 10 in the league. How does Grass DTecS compare with other rubbers of the same class from other brands? Any idea?

domacc
04-27-2011, 05:56 PM
I think DTecS is a special class because of tension and elasticity of the pimples. I think that is the only that way produced. Even knowing I would not say which is similar to, maybe one of Giant Dragon rubbers. It is not very sensitive to rotation, and when the opponent hits the spin, the ball returned to him three times stronger rotation after chop. Just because the tension and elasticity. I'm talking abour ox version. When they have sticker sheet gives them more effect. Rubbers in the store comes with a sticker sheet and without.

I wanna try it myself but the shipping havent reached Indonesia, so I guess I need to wait unless I want to pay extra for the international shipping.

Well for me is it:
blade: Andro CS7 Velocity
FH (red): Andro Hexer +
BH (black): Andro Hexer Powersponge

With that powersponge my blocking went 150% UP! .. really great.. but now when I got more feeling in it, I am thinking about updating to Andro Hexer + .. or if I will be able to get it, maybe I will buy me Giant Dragon - TopEnergy and try it for forehand and leave Hexer + for backhand..

Dang..
Like 90% of modern TT players are loopers ..

Come on..
I want to see more short pips hitter recently because I found out that my family's friend is average at looping yet great at hitting.. I suggest them to use short pips and they told me that it works awesome.. Now thats some natural-born hitters..
Many potential defenders are also blinded by the loopers' domination over TT..
Its just my dream but I want to see TT in its past diverse glory :(

Playing the blade for about 1 year and I'm sure you there is no better blade for me.

Since 2 years i switched to chinese rubbers, because they are cheap and have great quality.
Too bad the 729 rubbers are so different in their quality.

Blade: Timo Boll Spirit (ST) - I've played with this for many years now. Loved it since the first day I used it and have never looked back.
FH: Butterly Bryce FX
BH: Buttefly Bryce FX

Both of my rubbers are nearly 3 years old now! Since they banned speed glue I've just got used to the slowdown. Would love to try some Tenergy but it's so damn expensive. Anyone got an old sheet of it they don't use that I can have?

Hey Mate... How did u remove the premade sponge on the blade ? I loved that bat.. but the sponge is hard to remove. Do you find it light and hard with other rubbers ?

YosuaYosan
08-21-2011, 06:03 PM
Hey sun !
Just PULL THE HECK OUT OF IT lol :D
Yeah, I just literally pull it off like that. It goes off a bit hard because it is factory glued. But I think the rubber is okay, nothing is broken when I pull it, in fact, I slapped it to another blade of my friends' !
When you remove it, the blade is clean, no glue at all :D

Surprise2, the blade is LIGHT ! Not very light but light indeed ! So the Easy Slick 2.0mm is the stuff which made the bat heavy by overall.
I suppose its around 70~ grams only ! It is semi-hard and not so stiff, it got some flex. You could say it is an All+ blade.
Speed 95 Control 90 imo..
I am using it now and you can play touch with it. The blade has a big sweetspot. Almost every spot the ball land will transfer vibration to your hand so you could develop your feeling very well with it. Just make sure you have the proper thickness. With a medium-hard sponge I could still feel the ball very well even at MAX thickness. When using 2 mm sponge I could loop in perfect control with desired pace.

Uhm.. Yeah quite a review eh lol
I don't know I could talk that much. Hope it helps !

Oh and I am using a new FH rubber, so Sun what a coincidence ! I want to talk about my new FH and forum signature and out of the blue you asked about the blade I am slapping my new rubber onto. Good for you :D

Check my new signature guys !

These rubbers are great ^^
The omega 4, is a little bit soft but you can generate a lot of spin and also blocking is really good!
The vega pro is harder than the omega 4, it's also faster than the tenergy 05.
There's nothing bad to say about them. But I have to be a little more carefully with my forehand because sometimes I go to strong to the ball. Maybe it's because of my used Tenergy 05 which I had before. The spin is great and the speed, once you hit the ball very good is fast!
I played some crazy fast and spinny forehand topspins! I reached 2 times the quarter finals today and this was my second day playing with them!
Maybe very little adaptation problems, depending on which rubbers you are used to!

But these rubbers, I recommend them :)
