Hello :)
Well, here's the linkt with the time of matches: http://www.ittf.com/Protour_new/pdf/2011CW/Schedule_ChinavsWorld.pdf

If I'm not mistaken, the teams look like:
China:
- Ma Lin
- Ma Long
- Xu Xin

Rest of the world:
- Timo Boll
- Jun Mizutani
- Joo Se Hyuk

The matches are shown on the ittf site I think :)
It won't be easy for "the rest of the world" ... ^^
And for the women, I don't know much (or if you prefer, nothing ^^)

And, to the poll, should I vote the team who I think will win or vote the Team that I want to win? :D

rofl..... thus far the poll is 100% China, no world....

not that you can blame anyone for voting that way.

China should win. It is easier to predict than the SH vs PH competition.
Oh, Susan Saradon will be a special guest and she will play!

Since neither Wang Hao or Zhang Jike is on the Chinese team, I think Europe will take this one home! Timo needs a couple of victories now, so I think he will fight real hard, and Joo Se Hyuk & Jun Mitzutani are very very good players to! Go world! :)

I think in the world team, Joo Se Hyuk is the weakest link. His style is just so analyzed that strategically he has no chance.

I would say Timo Boll, Jun Mizutani, and Dimitrij Ovtcharov would have better chances.

scylla24
06-25-2011, 01:50 AM
I don't know, Timo Boll is pretty obvious for a choice, and Mizutani, while he generally never wins, makes it close, so he might get lucky and win one. When Ovtarchov first came on the scene, he caused some of the Chinese players trouble because of his unique style, but since then, he really hasn't given any of the Chinese players too much trouble. I think Samsonov is the better choice, because on his good day his play style can match well against Ma Long.

@leslie
I think I'd prefer one of the koreans instead of Dima. Or maybe Chuang or Matsudaira. And if Maze wasn't injured: MICHAEL MAZE :D He beat Wang Liqin in the Europe-Asia as well. Hope he is back soon.

Fang Bo is not playing! Timo just won against XU XIN ! Playing f**cking fantastic! Really really good! Go Boll! Mizutani lost to Ma Long. 1-1

Come on Underdogs! You can do that!! :D

I also think that the world team with Boll, Mizutani and Joo Se Hyuk is the right setup (eventhough i would also have seen Ryu Seung Min in the team). But they have got a european, a japanse and a korean. It is the right representants for both the sport and the big nations of table tennis in the world. Having Ovtcharov or Samsonov wouldn't have been any good.

Here they represent the most important countries and a really offensive player, a classic defensive player and a allround player. I really think they did a fantastic job putting together the team!

Does any disagree taking this in aspect?

Rhydian
06-25-2011, 08:27 AM
No, you're right.
I don't think Ovtcharov would have any chance. Ok, he's good and has his own style but after a moment, Liu Guoliang will find his weakpoint and bang, game over.
Samsonov, I really don't know.. Maybe he would have a chance, I don't know ^^
It's a nice setup and they're really strong. I think they can do it!

Reiin

It is also to promote the sport further! You see the spin new york team there also to promote the sport in the US.

Samsonov would pwn them all back then in his prime..
Right now he still played amazingly but somehow his strokes are not that powerful anymore..

I believe Samsonov could beat the Chinese with enough determination and POWER (because his control over the ball is insane enough)..
Just look at his action in World Cup 2009 beating Chen Qi and Ma Long.. Wanna see that again for sure :)

Well, I came into Ma Lin vs. Yoo.. and saw perfect match :-)
Then I saw Timo destroyed by Ma Long..
And now I am watching Mizutani vs. Xu Xin .. and I must say, I never saw Mizutani that offensive like he is now here..
Respect!
He is playing perfect!
But still he lost first game.. :-(

Wow Timo really got CRUSHED by Ma Long.
It almost looked pathetic... Did Timo look a bit pale? I hope he has some excuses like illness or lack of training, cuz if not, he's just not good enough to compete these guys...

hmmm nah, it depends on which Chinese player. Samsonov even in his prime sucked against Ma Lin. He usually lost against WLQ also, though WLQ did lose to him in the world cup finals one year.

As for the overall tournament, Boll seems to have gotten a lot better at counterlooping. He has never beat Xu Xin in the past, and normally when Xu Xin was able to start looping with his forehand, the point was as good as over. This time Boll was able to counter loop some of them back, prolong the point, and that made all the difference.

I am starting to lose some of my initial enthusiasm towards Xu Xin, sure his length and reach helps him get some great forehand loops once the point progresses to the mid game, but penhold style in general, is all about the short game and staying close to the table, and in that regard, it might be more advantageous to be Ma Lin and Wang Hao height....

Mizutani also played well, his backhand little flick down the line caused Xu Xin a lot of problems, and he was able to play more offensively. If he can keep improving, he will replace Boll as the biggest threat to China.

The Ma Long vs Boll match was just a huge slaughter....

Haha thats true about Ma Lin and Samsonov..
I only remembered Samsonov won once agains Ma other than that Ma's style is just too much..
However this only applies to some players back then imo..

Boll played mad against Xu Xin XD

YosuaYosan

I dont know if this is true but it seems that Joo start to use his backhand attack more frequently..
This is always what I want to see from a defender (can attack from both side whether it is a twiddle-loop or flat hit )..
Too many balls can be attacked from the BH but the ball is only pushed with the LP making it easily attacked..

I always hope Ruwen Filus could set a new standard in modern defensive game after Joo but his defence is not as strong as Joo..
Me myself practiced BH loop consecutively for a few days before changing to LP so that I could counter-attack well from both side..
This is my view as a defender about Joo sucessfuly winning a set over Ma..

@chughtai Did you watch the match between Xu Xin and Boll ? Boll won 3-2
and Mizutanis is a warm up for Ma Long but he gets better and better
and watch Ma Long vs Boll WTTTC 2010 or World Cup 2008

but I love Ma Long ♥

Just watched the full match between boll and xu xin, and ma lin and joo. Boll plays very well against Xu Xin, the performance in 4th and 5th just outstanding. However, I have no idea what have Xu Xin doing lately. Seems like he could not keep up the performance as same as early this year. Maybe he try to develope some new skill after the WTTC, but it looks like he just messed up in some part.

But I feel so sorry for Joo, Ma Lin just pretty hot lately. The lost is not Joo's fault thought.

China did not even send their best players and they are really just too much still. That being said, I think Ma Lin, Ma Long and Xu Xin are a great team. And I do think they chose the world team well. I like that there is a defender, I like that their is someone from Europe (Germany) and someone from Japan and someone from Korea. If they could only pick three players they made it so that the map was well represented. And so were playing styles.

Ma Long did look good and I do love watching him play. I think he will pull things together and start playing better but, in my opinion, he has some stuff to work on.

Carl on what he has to work on in your opinion? :P

Timo was outstanding against Xu Xin, amazing match. But Ma Long was on fire and it was difficult for Boll ^^ But, I found that Timo is improving and that he's on the right way!
Poor Joo... he had to play against Ma Lin ^^ Nevertheless, there were good points and Joo keeps improving. He attacks more with his LP backhand and doesn't just keep defending. He should continue :D
For Jun Mizutani, I found that he's playing more aggressively. That's good because against the Chinese, he cannot win just by passive play.. He is also progressing.

Future looks good if it's like I say :D

The fact that the chinese team chooses which Chinese players play this event, seems obvious, but who the hell chooses the "world-team"?

Rhydian

That's a really good question olvarox ^^ A question I asked myself too ^^ but I forgot to ask xD

Good question !
But whoever set the world team is good to think about putting a wide range of playing style on the team.. Its to show the 'world' anyway..
