Tenergy or something else? What Tenergy?

Hello, I am wondering what Tenergy that suits best for a defensive blade - Tengergy05 or Tenergy64?

The blade is the new Butterfly Power Defence, and a player in my club are using this. He is very offensive on the forehand, and defensiv LP's on the backhand.

If anyone could give their opinion it would be nice :)

I usually know a lot about offensive rubbers like the Tenergy, and I have used them myself.. But since this is a defensive blade, I think it was best to ask TableTennisDaily first.. So that I could be more accurate in my choice (he wants me to choose his rubbers for him)

Thanks! :D

I prefer very speedy and springy rubber with good spin like Nianmor on my forehand because on the long run you cannot win with spin alone.
This also helps you to vary the spin on your forehand and the less the rubber's ability to make spin, you could cope with your opponent's spin a bit better.
And it helps defenders to return the ball back from long range behind the table.
However this is my opinion..
So I will go with Tenergy 64. I believe there is a reason Joo uses T64.

If he is "very offensive" he would probably appreciate 64's additional catapult over 05 on a defensive blade. 64 has a more neutral angle and is also generally better accepted off the table at chopping distance. That said, in the big picture 05 still offers a similar level of speed, spin, and control, its just a different feel so its hard to say which your friend will ultimately prefer.

My understanding is that 64 is a little faster with a little less spin which is why it is said to be better at mid range than 05. 05 is a little bit slower with a little bit more spin which is why it is better for serving, short game and close to the table. They are both good though and either would be fine.

Hi buddy, though I am not very familiar with the blade, but I do know quite a bit about T64 and T05. I play quite a distance from the table, and I find the T64 is better suited for me. It has a longer trajectory than T05. With T05, my shots end up quite short on the table, but with a lot of spin. On the other hand, with T64 the spin is a little lesser, but I managed to get the ball to the baseline.
Blocking wise, I like the T64 better..it provides better control for soft and fast aggressive block.
All the while I was using Timo Boll ALC

Thanks for the help friends! :)

I still see that people keeps woting for Tenergy05, and there are now more votes for this.. Do you think it would be better off with a harder rubber like T05 rather than the softer, more medium like T64 and why?

I think I am going to choose this as my new setup, haven't decided yet, but I think so :)

I have tested the setup with a relatively hard chinese rubber, called Frendship 729 Super FX, and the feeling was really good! It only lacked speed, so I had to speed glue like there was no tomorrow with that rubber. That is why I thought of Tenergy as an option, since I have used T64 on a stiff offensive blade (STIGA Clipper) before, and I simply loved it. Does this mean that since the Power Defence is softer, I should use a harder rubber like T05 to compensate the feeling?

Stil think Im going with T64, but I'd like to know what others think to :)

Thank you for all your help, please continue voting and please continue share your opinions :D

Great to hear, Anders.
I hope you could find joy in defending with your new setup.

Thanks Yosua. I find very much joy in this! Actually, it makes me a better player (my coach thinks so) and therefore I think I am going to choose this setup as my primary setup :D

Just have to decide for T64 or T05, leaning towards T64 right now :)

Guys, I have now ordered the Tenergy64! :D (and some glue since my old was empty, lol)

I think it will be sent tomorrow, and if that is the case, I'll have it ready for testing with the defensive blade on wednesday or thursday. Depends on the mail systems..

I will let you know how I feel with the setup, and thank you for sharing your thoughts on this with me and the rest of the forum. :D

Simply awesome Anders, please give us a bit review of it as a defending and counter-attacking weapon if you don't mind ;)

Thanks mate! I can't promise any review, but I will try my best to share how I felt about the setup and how it all played. I am not good at reviewing, but I hope its ok if I just try to say something about it when I have played some sessions with it :)

it depends what your playing style is.
1.chop
2.close-to-table aggressive block/hitter
3.other (explain)

1. If u plan on chopping i would go for T64. Due to it being softer and having more control, the rubber will be easier to loop long pushes and high balls.
2. if u plan on staying close to the table i would go for T05. Due to it being spinnier,u can make shots like... after you use your pip to throw them off guard, u can rip the light spin shots that they are trying to just keep on the table.

hope this helps
