I know a table tennis enthusiast who has ~4000 balls. If you are serious I could maybe help you to reach him :)

dont mean to be rude ,but is there a reason for collecting TTballs? i can understand (maybe) collecting golf balls ,maybe a hole in one ball ,or a birdie or better ball ,but why TT? again i dont mean to be disrespectful ,thank you

Wow. I am not a dedicated collector, but when I buy a box of balls I put one ball into the jar for some time now, or exchange
my ball with the ball of my opponent and again into the jar. Also bought some interesting novelty balls... So i have around 70 balls, 15 of them are the 38mm

Feeling lucky -so yesterday in my club I found a 38mm!!! ball laying around. No idea how did it end up there. Maybe some old school one time players left it. SO now I have 16 38mm balls in my jar. The ball is a low end one from the unknown Vietnamese manufacturer. The rearer, the better :)

Yes, it's hard to imagine 4000.
I have 75 different balls and it's already getting harder to get the ones I don't have (I don't buy them on purpose, I try to exchange with other players from the club..)

I've still got one from late 80s to early 90s, never played, in original packaging, looks like this:

Here's a cool website with a large, well categorized collection of TT balls, made as early as 1920s! http://www.tischtennisbaelle.org/english/suche_datum2_ausgabe.php?suche_datum2=1920er

Do you have a 38mm Halex 3 star made in England, the best ball of the early 70's.

For "some time"? ;)

I may still have a few at my parents' house... might have to look for them! Not even so much for collecting, as just to try what they feel like.

Also, one thing I like about TT: almost anyone can put together a great collection, based on their interests. I am sure there's lots of fun to be had in watches or cars collecting but heck, your first purchase could fund that previous guy's entire 4000-ball collection. Both are nuts in some way, of course. A good way. :o

are you saying that I should put some effort in collecting more balls or that it's time for me to retire? :)

Neither of these, rather the opposite!
I just found it amusing, the way you casually said "some time" as though it had been a couple of years, and then came up with all these 38mm balls.
But keep doing things your way of course, there is no rationale when it comes to collecting.

that's very cool. I have the white Nittaku, but all others I am seeing for the first time.
I wish I could find some 38mm balls laying around unnoticed, but that's not going to happen :(

I think he's poking fun at the fact ittf used safety as an argument to promote plastic balls, instead of celluloid - saying celluloid was highly flammable.
Which is not untrue, but also not all that convincing.

Wealways wondered if it was possible to put enough spin on the ball to make it burst into flame as it flew toward the opponent. I am sure it is possible - maybe just not humanly possible. Anyone want to apply 600 volts to their robot to try it? LOL

Soon after the 40mm ball was introduced, I went to training but forgot to pack my usual Nittaku. I bought a packet of 6-pack Lion brand just to play with for the day. After that it went to the varied pile in my robot which then went to the robot at my club.
Recently we finally went to 40+ balls in the club's robot. In clearing the old balls I found that two of that original 6-pack had survived. That's >15years of robot play. Amazingly, it still spins without wobble.

Anyone got any Dunlop Barna balls?I hated them as they were a ton weight!
There are some article in the ITTF Table Tennis Collector magazine on balls.

To the original poster how did you make the display case?

To the original poster how did you make the display case?

I am just speculating, but I guess drilling a small hole with a regular drill to the plank would be enough to make the balls stay in their places...

Why? Are you collecting the balls too?
