What a great week of table tennis! The top players in the world are participating in both the men's and women's singles. Ma Long leads the men's singles with Fan Zhendong, Fan Zhendong, Xu Xin and Zhang Jike following closely looking to take the title. Recent Australian Open winner Jun Mizutani enters as the number 5 seed. With the Rio Olympics fast approaching players are preparing to find form. Newly world number 10 Wong Chun Ting will look to make a dent in the draw. Will Vladimir Samsonov be a threat to the Chinese? Portugal's Marcos Freitas and Tiago Apolonia will look to get some BIG wins! A fantastic event to follow, be sure to get involved on the TTD discussions and join us in the live chat in the ITTF Live Streaming!

I hope ZJK and Ding Ning will get hard times. It is not I do not like them, but it was dissapointed not to choose XX and LSW for Olympics. Now they have to prove to all people not only LGL that they are best. I Wonder how the coaches would feel when ZJK and DN loose earlier when they supposed to. Second round DN will face Mima Ito...
ZJK has easier rounds utnil in semis he meets FZD, or maybe Samsonov can cause a surprise.

That is one strong line-up.

It's clearly far more difficult to win a medal at the Japan Open than the Rio Olympics!

Harimoto is a pleasant surprise to breaking records. What surprise me more is Shan Xiaona who push the WR3 Zhu Yuling to 7th decider and deuce a couple of times before giving up in the last moment and very close to causing an upset. Never expect one side pip cpen can create this much trouble to any top Chinese player these days.

Still think Shan shouldn't call her timeout after 12:12 and let ZYL a chance to get her advise from coach. ZYL came back to serve a winner and no turning back.

Agree with you on sp cpen player. They don't survive in China because inverted have no problem facing them
But I guess this is where Zhu will become more mature. Just like some of the mens having problem with choppers.
Go back home and train and never have problem ever again :)

Maybe both Ma Long and Zhang Jike did not want to play against each other before the Olympic Games? Anyway, mindblowing results!

That is an interesting perspective. Crazy results. Perhaps the two will meet in Korea next week.
