Where are the German players? I hate that they let such great possibilities, to compete with the best, slip through their fingers over and over again.

I'm quite disappointed too.
Seems as if they need to rethink their priorities.

For a super event, it feels a bit strange to me that there is no preliminary round, and every one goes straight into main round of 32, not even 64..

While it is good to have competitions going on for us, ITTF might need to rethink about their spacing of events (after an Olympic) so that the 'super' events do what they are meant to, i.e., to get more of the best players to all come together to compete

So both german and japan are holding their players (olympic team players in case of japan) from joining an event this big? I'm rather surprised

You know the funny part of this low participation situation in men's singles?
According to ITTF prize money: http://www.ittf.com/_front_page/ittf1.asp?category=prize_money
Every player will get atleast 900$ for just participating :D

They only have live streaming from 1pm to 5pm local time because of the low number of players participating. I see they have not update the list of playback in ittv yet. Only 3 matches of Women Single Pre Round is there for the first day. Should check back later for any update.

WCT is Chinese. HK also belongs to China...

I think Chinese domination in Ladies won't be as big as before. DING, LI, and just behind LIU are real champions. I believe ZHU may win gold at either worlds or olympics at least once, CHENG is possibly in the same category, but those 2 players are not as good as the 3 above. LI at her best was real athletically impressive, as powerful as men. DING with her serves has 3 or 4 free points per set against almost every player (except her colleagues). ZHU is very consistent, has a good backhand, but she lacks relatively power, i think and her game is very classic without any surprise.

There are many young (Asian) ladies ready to challenge them...

In Men's i don't see anybody really able to challenge FAN for a while.

@ Ronz91

there's really a lot of young japanese players. Mima ITO is the strongest now among them, but i think Hina HAYATA and Miu HIRANO will be better than her. especially HAYATA. she's got good power for a girl. HAMAMOTO is tall and athletic as well but technically she is not consistent yet.
SATO the chopper is very good as well.

In Men's all Japanese hopes will rely on HARIMOTO.

MA Long overcame ZJK. ZJK played quite well but had too many ups and downs, and MA could play one extra level higher in the decider while ZJK just could not.

Ittf is absolute shit, they upload the crappiest possible quality videos that look like slideshow. They have been allegedly skipping all good rallies that were in many matches and just highlighting a lot of service error or receive error points, it looks as if they just don't care what points to include and just highlight them randomly.
Not only that, a lot of matches aren't even uploaded that are worth to watch, and they're all are too short, some of them skip even 3-4 points during a game, and the entire video last only 3 minutes. Also with the huge delay of uploading the new matches that already have been played. What a shit is the ittf.

Being an FZD fan I am probably abit biased, did ML play particularly badly?

My observations of the final:
-FZD has improved his FH return off the serve
-He has more patience
-deployed the banana flick intelligently
-targeted ML's BH
-varied the pace on his BH well & showed more flexibilty with FH
-still needs work mentally, as indicated by time out when closing out the third and that he had large leads in most sets but only won by a few points in the end

I'm not surprised by FZD victory, i voted for him.
After his Olympic gold, MA probably cooled off a bit. FZD against ML recently were close calls, while FZD this time had 100% motivation and preparation, while ML was not at his best

That being said, its an important victory for FZD, which will give him even more confidence. I think we have the next World Champion and Olympic Champion here.

How do you see that? I have only watched the ITTF highlights. But from 18 points shown where Fan was forced to play FH push he won only 5. However, Ma Long did not play as consistently to Fan's short FH side as he did in the World championship's final last year.

Ho Kwan Kit and Wong Chun Ting improved immensely since they train with CNT. With Euro or Jap players you often see that they misjudge the spin and the ball miss the table. WCT and HKK were outplayed more than outpowered.

I see. Thanks. It is kind of funny because ML loss to CCY 0:4 in the Qualify Group but managed to proceed and beat Maze 4:0, XX 4:0 and Timo 4:0 in the Final. Impressive! CNT really knows when to loss without any ill effect.

Nah, he got extremely lucky. If CCY lost to Crisan by 2-4 or worse, Ma Long would not have made it out of the group. As it happened, CCY lost 3-4 - CCY could have lost the match by more and eliminated Ma Long so credit to CCY for playing it straight. It also ended up costing XX a chance at playing Ma Long in the final as they played in the Semi-final because Ma Long came second in the group.
