Nice get. Hope nobody gets in trouble. Interesting at many levels. One of them is that Stiga better do something soon considering they are a European company. Maybe they get by fine selling blades to their Chinese market. Maybe their newest rubbers will catch on but as things stand now, hardly anybody likes their stuff.

Also, what I always knew. Nothing goes better on a Viscaria than T05!

Seems like ZLC and ZLF blades are on the rise. Personally I still prefer ALC.

A lot we can take from this. I find it interesting (and not all the surprising) that tin tin ho plays with Stiga royal. Apparently that's their fastest SP and one of the fastest around from what you'll see on tabletennisdb. I have a club member who has it and likes it a lot.

Very interesting to see.

Also interesting how many blades are not listed as if they couldn't tell what blade it was.

I have a professional habit of looking for patterns in data. Here is one: There is a very marked and statistically significant over-representation of women using softer (FX) sponges in this sample.

Also a few players are listed twice. Maybe their first racket failed?

Dima was using T05 on both sides? I thought his FH was black H3?

I find this sort of thing fascinating. Like how there are actually pros who use Yasaka, Xiom, and Dr Neubauer products. I didn't know that.

He clearly went back - he has started pushing from the forehand side with the backhand again.

FX-P will do well for you. It plays not as soft as advertised and makes it easy to generate massive spin.

[CONSPIRACY MODE]

I think that after Lebesson won the championships, Tibhar decided to use the chance and show off to as many players as possible that he used Evolution rubbers, hence the "leak" :D

I actually played only with number 69 David Jonsson and I even won one match from our 3 meetings :)
There is also a mistake, 129 Mikhailova Polina is NOT SVK!
And also there is a player from SVK not mentioned here who played there,
Valuch, Alexander, FH: Gewo XT50, BH Gewo Hype 47,5 and blade Nittaku Violin ;)

David is one of the original members of Korea Foreign... he liked Calibra LT Sound back then. If anyone visits the FB page in my sig, he is the player on the very far right.

Not that subtle - How many people use FX-P on the list? I just find it amazing that such a high level player uses soft rubbers.

It's probably wise for me to use fx as I don't believe my swing speed is any faster than women's pro players, haha.

Actually, I remember Butterfly Sales guy was telling me that the moment their sponsored player starting to choose softer rubber, their rankings start to go down too.

countrybread
10-31-2016, 05:02 AM
I knew a developing player who bought Tenergy 64FX and paired it with a Stiga CC7. (very fast blade/soft version rubber) I could never beat him after that, but his mechanics are awful.

Butterfly Korbel Off and Butterfly Petr Korbel Offensive should be contracted to one, and then we get 4th place together with M.Maze. Amazing that it's still so popular, just right after Mizutani and most popular ALC blades

Very interesting to see.

Also interesting how many blades are not listed as if they couldn't tell what blade it was.

Sent from the Subterranean Workshop by Telepathy

I was shown some photographs of these blades, that are not specified. They are custom blades, where the handle has no sign or mark, yet it resembles the sponsor of the player. (Like Samsonov and Dyjas). But the handle is also custom and the blade itself is a very different manufacturer's product or some prototype stuff.
For example Dyjas played with two bats in the ETTC. One was someting like Waldner senso V1.. .that handle colour and pattern is recognisable from miles away, and his other blade was like a Waldner Dicon, but there was no hole in the side of the handle, no markings except that donic pattern, and the blade was composite, not all-wood.

This is why I tell people that the identified blades say more with certainty about the handle than they do about the blade. People could also move a handle onto another blade.

So, I heared some stuff, that Donic used to pay BTY some money so the were making BTY tenergy rubbers with DONIC BLUEFIRE on it! This is probably still happening, but on EC Dima plays under BTY flag as German national team is sponsored by BTY. At regular tournaments Dima is under DONIC, therefore he uses DONIC like equipment.
That is how this works..
I also have been talking to few people playing on high level, all said same thing:
"I like my blade best, if my sponsor want me to change it, I can change the LOGO, but wont change the blade!"
Many players do have other blades than it looks like.

Also - about that huge Tenergy count, I heared that this is just a huuuge bubble and there are other (better) rubbers, just everyone seems to be blinded with this huge propaganda..
In fact the difference between the rubbers is soooo little..
Anyways I heared really good reviews at GEWO HYPE XT50 rubbers, also TIBHAR EVOLUTION or VICTAS V15 EXTRA.
Many pro players switch to these as they are pretty damn fast and grab the poly better than others..
Me personally I dont use tenergy, because I am not willing to pay 20 more for some rubber that may even not be better than what I already have ;)

I've gotta say, for a long time I was looking for something as good as or better than Tenergy 05. Right now I am using MX-P and FX-P.

I just finished with a set of T05/T64 that, when I put them on they were slightly worn but sitting on a shelf for about 2 years.

When they were done and I felt they were worn out, they still were actually as good as my brand new MX-P and the throw on T05 was still considerably higher.

I am happy with MX-P/FX-P. And I can get it for half what T05 costs. But there is no way I am going to say it is as good as T05. I am comfortable with the fact that MX-P is darn good rubber. But that T05 is better for spinning the ball and looping. MX-P may be more of a drive rubber. And it has power. But it does not last half as long either.

Btfly not surprisingly has the worst sponsorship agreements of any of the major brands from the players' perspective. So you can be pretty sure that the players with Btfly handles have not switched handles, since they would probably have a better deal if they used some other manufacturer's blade. The Drinkhall blade is already an almost perfect clone of Btfly ALC, so I doubt he needs to switch handles.

It is a bit surprising that Donic does not seem to have built for Ovtcharov a blade that he is perfectly happy with. I actually think the True Carbon is a great blade -- another Btfly ALC clone - but the blade he is using certainly doesn't look like that. He must not be using it. Same for Samsonov. He has about 600 Tibhar blades with his name on them, and still they can't build one that he likes? Odd. I have found this puzzling for a long time now.

As for the predominance of Tenergy, those player's livelihoods depend on their equipment, and they are better players than we are. I think they make their rubber choices pretty carefully, and are not "blinded by propaganda".

As qvolizz pointed out, changing handles is not only about sponsorship. It is also about what you like in your hand. I do agree it is a stretch to think that someone would put a butterfly handle on a non-butterfly blade.

The winners of the event used ESN rubbers - Cornilleau and Tibhar. It may not be propaganda, but there might be a conservatism amongst the pros that is no longer fully justifiable purely on performance.

I agree. I am a big proponent of the idea that handle shape matters.

I disagree with Carl about MX-P. I think on my blades it's just as good as T05. I would not have switched if I got T05 for free though.

And you are right about top. players being conservative. They have good reasons to be. Still I say again that the 2500ish T05 players always say they could be happy with MX-P after they try my blade. 2500 Is very far from the level of a top pro but still this is worth noting.

I still don't get why Donic and Tibhar can't make blades that Dima and Vladi actually use. Especially since they sell some very good blades.

Hasn't Samsonov always played with a tibhar blade (or for at least the last 10 years ) ? He uses grips, maybe thats why its not specified in the opening post.

It is a darn good rubber. I am just not going to say it is quite as good as T05. Pretty close. Definitely close enough for me. But T05 seems to get a little more spin and to last a little better. Small things. And for me, a little extra spin with a little less speed would be a pretty okay exchange. So part of it is what I value from a rubber.

And if I could get T05 for the same price as MX-P, I would take that deal. But for the price you can get it for, MX-P is the rubber I will use. I am pretty happy with it.

I think some players have said that MX-P is more suited for driving the ball and T05 for spinning the ball, even as they play similarly. I agree with this assessment. I think Carl plays more of a spin style so I can understand why he prefers T05.

Tenergy certainly isn't the best selling rubber in Japan and I would guess it's the same globally. There are faster/spinnier rubber but ternergy has the allround properties that seprates it from other rubbers(without booster I guess).

Having said that, a lot of it is psychological too. It's tested and proven at higher level already so you know what you expect from tenergy. With other rubbers you need to have a hit with it for couple weeks to get used to it then decide if it really suits your style and pros generaly don't have that time especialy before the big tournaments.

I only change my rubber every 3 months so I don't to endeavor to endlessly search for the tenergy alternatives.
My daughter plays about 25+hours per week and changes rubber more frequently so I'm keep telling her that tenergy isn't as good as people say it is!

I'm not sure it makes all that much difference after a few sessions to adjust. I like that MX-P is slightly harder and I am appreciating the slight boost in speed with plastic balls. T05 lasts longer for sure. If price comes back down I might switch back. I played T05 almost from the time it came out.

Going back to the first post, most of the people using MX-P are not players I know anything about. But I certainly don't think of Samsonov or Tokic as players who drive more than they spin the ball. My experience is that after a few sessions to adjust you just do what you do and it all kind of works. First time I tried MXP back with celluloid balls I remember thinking T05 has better margin for error. This time, a couple of years later, I don't have that impression.

I Posted Vladis Blade in the Pro's equipment thread. Please read it there. It is clearly visible, that his blade is not a Tibhar blade, or is it some sort of prototype, but the top koto veener of the blade (colour) points toward Butterfly.

Well, now you want to make the racket testers really work. Thickness before boosting or actual thickness? Thickness of rubber: most likely they are all very close to the 4mm max. Perhaps some are over the 4mm max. But the 4mm max means sponge+topsheet. And in the products we buy they only tell us the thickness of the sponge. But that is not what they measure to check if the rubber is legal. They check the total thickness which is not supposed to exceed 4mm.

The rubber layer of the covering is also controlled by the rules. At maximum it can be 1,8 mm.So in most cases it does not matter if they only give the sponge thickness because the overall thickness must be 4,04 mm at maximum.

Seems to me that Tenergy 05 is the most popular rubber. Interesting to see that Franziska uses mazunov, an old school table tennis blade..

Good post nevertheless, informative.

I cannot say how I got this information but I thought some of you may find it interesting. I have got the players equipment from the recent ETTC with some stats to.

Viscaria is an oldschool blade too, but a very popular one.

I have a professional habit of looking for patterns in data. Here is one: There is a very marked and statistically significant over-representation of women using softer (FX) sponges in this sample.

Also a few players are listed twice. Maybe their first racket failed?

Nope, their racket was absolutely fine, they changed it, depending on the venue (there were 3 halls with different sizes), the opponent and their own agility. Only 1 rocket was fishy for the racket control, because VOC value was slightly above the limit 3-4 times, but way under the speedglue value (100-200 times). So that blade was treated with something.
