Hello EJs!:D

Happy New Year and may we all have an amazing year ahead!

Anyway, I was looking to replace my Butterfly Flextra with something faster. I am using it for my RPB side. Here's the detail:

Things I like in Flextra that I want my new rubber to have;
1. Spin insensitive
2. Light
3. Super soft (so soft that it bottoms out to my Balsa blade and activates the blade's catapult effect and BOOM!)
4. It comes <2.0mm (1.8/1.9..something)
5. Excellent for blocking

All that's said but faster and also spinier.

Thanks a lot guys! :D

Another penholder here.

I have tried a number of soft rubbers for RPB:
729 snipe III
729 Aurora
Donic F3
Rasant powersponge
Rasant Beat
Butterfly T80
Gewo Thunderball 2
Nittaku FastArc C1

To my surprise the less known Thunderball 2 and FastArc C1 beat the rest of them. Thunderball and FastArc are fairly insensitive to spin yet can generate decent spin. Powerful enough far from the table.

My Thunderball is 1.5mm and it bottom out very easily. I like that feeling.

My FastArc C1 is 2.0mm but i guess you can try a thinner version.

Thanks SFF_lib! Both are sure hard to find specially in my area. But I will look it up! With regards to thickness, I tried Mark V with 2.0mm but still not enough for me to sink the ball despite its softness.

thanks again!
I could only get Thunderball 2nd hand probably it's out of production. The control it gives you is out of this world after trying so many big brands. I could direct the ball anywhere I want. With 1.5mm I could do mid to far distance counter loop.

Mark V is not that soft in comparison.

Fascinating. I think they have this in TT11, I will also look it up in our local stores to save shipping costs. Incase I can't find one, what rubber can you recommend from the famous brands (those easy to find).

Thanks!

This is the company behind GEWO. They ship worldwide.
It's on sale for EUR 15,90 at the moment.

Sorry for late reply.

My hunch, what you need is Flextra on Steroid, not only for Blocking, but also for Driving or Killing, hence why you need something faster. :)

Note. I heavily recommend KTL / LKT products. Most of their rubber I have tried is very controllable. ;-)

If You want Flextra,

Butterfly Addoy
Butterfly Wakaba
JOOLA 4-All
Donic Liga
Stiga Cobra 2000
Cornilleau Pilot Control
Donic Vario
Butterfly Pan Asia
Andro Impuls Speed
Donic Coppa Tenero
Dawei 2008 (Super Power)
Donic Twingo
Banda Rossa Soft
Tibhar Rapid Soft

If You want Flextra on Steroid, which is a very large groups considering how slow Flextra is.

Wow those are some lists. Thanks BeGo. I'll look to some of those. But to be honest those list made me more confused. Lol.
Then I suggest try the Ktl / Lkt ones first.

All their rubber i have tried have one thing in common, they very safe and controllable. [emoji6]

I don't know about KTL but I've tried some Chinese rubber but although they're great for FH but not so much for backhand even the softer ones. Not because they lack control but they lack the "feel." I'm leaning more towards the Stiga, Donic, and Xioms in you list, they're pretty common in our place. Thanks BeGo!

I wiped 3 layers of kerosene to my flextra and while I'm at it I also wiped 1 thin layer of WD-40 (just trying to mix stuffs). All with an interval of 1-2 hours then I let it idle for a day. Here's what happen; First it curled like f****ng burrito. I waited 'til it curl back, it did after a day but very little. Another thing I noticed is that it expanded like hell and there's at east 1 cm more over the side of my blade when I tried to glue. Oh and one thing, It keeps curling back after I've glued it. I tried pressing it with a book with dumbbells on top, it was better but still trying to curl back from the side little by little.

I tried playing with it. It is faster now and has a clicking sound when hit hard. But the spin only improve a little. But I don't like the smell of it. So I resulted in buying a 1.8mm XIOM OMEGA IV which is on sale in TT11.

buy a real booster instead of boosting with any kitchen product you find handy.

I was just following Der_Echte's advice. Besides, boosters are hard to come by in my area. And buying from other countries is not an option because it will not get pass customs. Anyway, I don't think I like boosting as the smell kinda triggers my asthma. So I ended up buying a tensor rubber instead.

It is fun and good experience to try boosting existing old rubbers, but ultimately, personally, I find it too much a hassle to tune rubbers to use regularly. It is easier just to slap on a new rubber. Fortunately, the rubbers i like and use perform just fine for me untuned.
