Team China is currently going through it's intensive closed training before the 2017 World Championships next month!

The closed training session for World Championships 2017 is from the 3rd April to 14th June. Now the men's team is in Shenzhen and women's team in Huangshi.
As usual, the photo wall of major rivals can be seen in the training hall (photo by Coach Wu Jingping).

The WTTC starts May 29. So they will have two weeks to recover from this intense training before the tournament. In sports physiology, the conventional wisdom includes that you only train super intensively for the events that are most important to you (like WTTC, Olympics). Also, a lot of sports scientists advocate that one should:

  1. Start to adjust training four to six weeks out by decreasing volume and increasing intensity.
  2. Two weeks before the tournament, further adjust intensity and volume.

The caveat is that a lot of this is based on research on athletes in more endurance based sports, and speed and power sports have people who advocate for different ideas where you train harder later (based on differences in the way fast twitch vs slow twitch fibers react to intense training).

The question I have is what is behind this? Are the players being "punished" for bad performances at ATTC as coaches try to cover their own asses (just in case)? Is this a response to media criticism in China? They are not used to losing. It is possible that this really intense training is starting too late for WTTC and therefore the taper down is too short. The real key is what are the players going to be required to do for the two weeks before the WTTC starts.

Isn't this normal for them , are you saying they are starting the closed training too late and too close to the WTTC ?

I thought that they are used to training 6-7 hours even during their regular training , and this would not something tough for them . Also , from what I remember reading else where that third training session is really optional and not for everybody ...

Seven 1st-tier rivals of men's team include: Jung Young Sik, Chuang Chih Yuan, Dimitrij Ovtcharov, Jun Mizutani, Timo Boll, Vladimir Samsonov and Marcos Freitas.

The local news said that the video clip of women's team losing to Hirano is looping in the training hall in Huangshi.

This is pretty normal for closed training.

Sometimes there are 4 training classes per day and the players get up at 6...

They don't know that sleeping before midnight is the most important? ;) Now I hear the kids' voice: 'But Mom, CNT is still awake!'

Seriously, it's better to go to bed at 23 and wake up at 8 than go to bed at 21 and wake up at 6?

In Asia, you dun call 23 midnight, and 21 is just the time when drinking gets started [emoji4] Most of TT clubs I have been in several countries in Asia, its very normal that ppl play till 22. Therefore, CNT training till 21 is very much appropriate for our life style [emoji4]
