I saw Tiago beat Wang Liqin handsomely at the English Open a few years back when WLQ was in his prime. Anything's possible.

Wang Liqins prime was like 2005-2007 and the game you were talking about was a 4:3 for tiago in 2009 this is 8 years away from now. Tabletennis has changed a lot since then. Even Schlager said in an interview couple of years ago he was playing better in the years after 2003 than when he became wttc champion, and that is because the game has changed so much in terms of physical strength.
I know he s a threat to probably any player of the world but if he beats ma long fzd or xx in the wttc and youre attending it s free beer on me for you :D

Yeah mate, anything's possible, but i bet if you would have followed this year's TTBL season you probably wouldn't say so.
Tiago has been underperforming almost throughout the whole season with quite an awful lot of unexpected losses. So i would say the chances are quite slim for him to challenge the CNT players, even though i hope he proves me wrong!

I used to know somebody who could a serve like this ... his other serves were already vicious and then he would throw in one of these and people would be scrambling around the table to get it .... however I think this is easier to do, especially on serve, with plastic ball because it loses momentum quicker than celluloid ...
There is a junior I know who does this all the time. I have seen him win points with it on matches.

Just to make it clear as i dont think the ITTF did...

The mens singles will have 64 seeds going into the main draw. (Round of 128)
Then there is a further 32 players directly entered into the main draw. (64 and 32 = 96)
The rest of the round of 128 is then made up of the players that win in the qualification rounds on monday and Tuesday .
http://www.old.ittf.com/competition...1.asp?grp=&Event_Type=MSP&Competition_ID=2705

Hope this helps anyone who wanted to know the tournament structure.
