The Indian Open was such a great event. The spectators really enjoyed the table tennis and gave the event a great atmosphere, unlike at some more prestigious tournaments.

It's a mixed event? Men and women play together, or men vs men and women vs women?

Freitas playing. This looks great. How do the matches work, whats the format like?

It will be best of 3 games per matches from what I have heard so far (disappointing)....I think the a match would consist of 2 men's singles, 1 women's singles, a men's double and a mix doubles (hypothesis).

Sanil Shetty made a big upset vs Tiago Apolonia.

Given how he played at the Australian Open, he can't have big upsets anymore unless he beats someone in the top 10.

Arjun Ghosh played way above his level against Kou Lei (who seems to be unwell). He was up 11-4, 10-8 before collapsing to lose 11-4, 10-11, 3-11.

Kim Song I is a fantastic player. Would like to see her on pro tour more often.

Why no proper deuce? What is the reason? I think, deuce is one of the exciting part of game! Anybody knows reason?

They could have gone with three deuce and then a golden point, may be.

T2 APAC also got rid of deuce! why?!!

Deuce takes up a lot of time. People take more time to play multiple points given the impact of the points. So it is an easy way to shorten the game - avoiding those points. For time constrained events with TV broadcasting limits etc, this is important.

That is substantial enough to add time to a match especially if it happens in multiple games and matches. That said, there is no obviously right or wrong answer here, it all depends in the constraints the organizers are working within.

This somehow must have slipped through, or am I the only one who finds this pretty impressive??

A german second league player beats a french first league player.
Quite an upset IMHO!

Strangeloop already posted about this a few pages back, but I also pointed out that Shetty had already beaten good players at Australian Open, including Jang Woojin, who is a technically sounder player than Aruna. So these are upsets, but Shetty has already shown he is more than capable.

Suga D

Oops, somehow i must have missed that match against Jang Woojin.
That's also very impressive.
But i just didn't expect him winning against Aruna. And I totally agree, he has already shown that he's capable of causing upsets. he must have made quite a jump since last year.

TTC Obererlenbach Bad Homburg can be glad to have him playing for them.
:)
One player sometimes can make a whole lotta difference, TTCOE might try to advance to TTBL.
Really looking forward to the new season.
