It surprises me to see XX with a low win ratio, he was playing superbly good at China National Games. Is he injured or something like that?

XX did not always play singles this season. He sometimes played doubles and sometimes was arranged to play the fifth set while Shanghai lost before he played.
In singles, he beat Zhang Yudong(Jiangsu), Xia Yizheng (Shandong Weiqiao), Xu Ruifeng (Sichuan), Zhou Qihao(Anhui) and Yu Ziyang(Anhui). He lost to LGY(Shandong Weiqiao), Ma Te(Tianjin), Ren Hao(Shenzhen), Wang Chuqin (Bazhou).
In doubles, he paired with Cui Qinglei and lost to Jiangsu and Shandong Luneng.
In general Shanghai has not played well (3 wins and 6 losses). No news about XX's major injuries since he played German Open, Swedish Open and Grand Finals. He switched to DHS N301 blade and played the above tour events but changed again (not sure what blade) during CTTSL. Maybe he needs time to adjust to the new blade.

It's the same list used by all super fans for all the top world players. It is much more enlightening to go into the actual weaknesses of these players that they need work on (skills, tactics, and mental composure). That is precisely what their competitors and those competitors' coaches do and it pays off regularly.
PS., I apologize profoundly for someone's ugly comment about you being a petty-minded woman. I hate that sexist bullshit. I have great respect and appreciation for your analysis, even when I might disagree.

From ITTF website:
ITTF World Team Ranking
The ITTF World Team Ranking is based on the rating points of the 3 highest world title eligible rankedplayers of each Association, ranked on the current individual World Ranking lists. Even if an Associationhas only one or two players ranked on the individual World Ranking list, the team of that Association isstill ranked.
To set up the World Team Ranking list, each team is opposed to all the other teams in a computersimulated round-robin, using the WTTC match system of 5 singles matches. The order of matches is thefollowing: A v X, B v Y, C v Z, A v Y, B v X. In each virtual team match the players are placed in rankingorder. 2 points are awarded to the winning team of each of these team matches, the losing team getting0 points. When there is a tie, which may happen when players of opposing teams have the same Rating, each of these teams receives 1 point.
The final ranking order is determined by the total number of points earned by each of the teams. Wherethere are tied teams, in the first instance those virtual team matches between the tied teams areconsidered to resolve the tie. If there is still a tie, then the total individual matches won against allopposing teams is then considered.
From 1st January 2018 the new individual senior singles points will be taken for the team rankingcalculation instead of the rating points. The calculation method of the team ranking will stay the samein 2018.

I don't understand it either. Top 3 for Germany is Dima, Boll and Filus for 42153 pts total, while top 3 for China is FZD, LGY and XX for 43924 pts total.
The team ranking is made by prediction of higher ranked players beating lower ranked players. The top two ranked players "play" twice and the third ranked player "plays" once.
For example, when Germany faces China, #1 Dima is predicted to beat #2 FZD and #4 LGY. #3 Timo is predicted to beat #4 LGY and lose to #2 FZD. Filus is predicted to lose to #5 XX. The final result is Germany 3-2 China.

CTTA's new policy for player selection may need some clarification from CTTA or CNT. The description is unclear and can be interpreted differently.

In general, there will be one spot for U21 player in Team World Cup and WTTTC lineup. If a provincial team player is ranked top 3 in CTTSL (the chance is almost 0), he/she will get a spot. One medalist of 2017 WTTC/World Cup and one medalist of 2017 China National Games get spots. The remaining spots come from trials or evaluation.

Only 6 players will play senior tour events and 4 for U21 tour. They have internal ranking and trials but no further info is released.

it will be interesting to see the tournament this year. People think China can beat Germany but from the ranking Germany is on the top. China woman has Japan behind them but Japan can cause the upset. China knows that. Also China keeps putting a lot of new players , hoping that some of them can replace the old players . The old players are not bad but China needs some new styles so that other team will not be easy to adapt.

But in comparison with men's team , china's women team is far better than their rivals now specially with new young players .
