So in short, softer sponge rubbers make for better blocking?

Yes. :)

Flatter and faster return on blocking, less affected by incoming spin, but less capabilities for creating spin either.

And among the easiest rubber to use, cause you did not have to keep your blade near parallel to incoming ball.

If you were happy with Omega V Asia on BH and you are looking for a lower throw, than Omega V Tour would be good.
It's softer than Asia, just a bit slower, the same spin /Asia has better brush, Tour better mechanical/ and is superior in blocks and drives.
Usually players use Asia on FH and Tour on BH. I've used that too, but I still prefer equal wings.

I don’t know the rubbers, but some describe Asia as having the lowest throw AFAIK: http://www.tt-spin.de/xiom-omega-v-tour-pro-asia-euro/

Softer sponge won’t necessarily be what you want for lower throw: on some shots softer sponges will have a higher throw, and more generally throw has a lot to do with the topsheet.

Hopefully more people can chime in.

Aye that's the thing, i dont want something too soft to the point where creating your own spin is an issue.
