My 11 year old son has been playing for two years with a Dunlop bat (sorry - I know!!) Now regularly playing local and national age group tournaments so needs a new better bat. Been using his coach's bat for the last 3 weeks (Yinhe T -10 blade with Tibhar MX S and EL P rubbers) but its falling apart and he needs his own. Coach said to go for an all round blade and pick a rubber in our price range which isnt too fast. He is adamant he wants a Butterfly bat (and he is using xmas money so its his choice!) so not sure whether to just get a premade again for now (Timo Ball?) or Teessport (I live in UK) have a bat they will assemble which is a generic allround Butterfly blade with Flextra rubbers. Thoughts??

Any advice greatly received - its a minefieldl!

Hello

If your son is adamant on getting a Butterfly bat, you could go for one of these from TeesSport:

The flextra bat will be slower and he may outgrow quite quickly, as juniors tend to improve very quickly.

The sriver bat is probably a decent choice to start with. Not too fast, not too slow.

If he wants a bit more speed, then go for the roundell bat.

Others on this forum will be able to give recommendations for other brands, which will be equally good but probably much cheaper.

I was tending towards the Flextra both on the cost side and to allow him to develop technique before going onto something faster. Would there be much between the Flextra and Sriver?

If Butterfly, I would definitely go Sriver 1.9mm for the rubbers to start.

Also, I highly recommend you don't go with a pre-made bat and get a custom setup instead. The quality of the blade will be much higher and it will last him for years, and he can glue yet faster rubbers on it when the time comes. Also, the rubbers of a pre-made bat can be old stock and not play as well as packaged rubbers.

This is a very good ALL+ / OFF- Butterfly bat for developing players all the way to high level:

Yep. I would get that Primorac Off- blade. I would also think about Sriver FX or EL. For that age, softer rubbers can help the player learn certain aspects of technique for spinning the ball.
