Hi for all,

I have a doubt, I have a Chinese coach and he's talking about the chinese rubbers are much better than the Euro/Jap ones, and he convinced me to try out Chinese rubbers on forehand. I can obtain real H3 Neo Provincial version from my country, but I prefer to try first a cheaper one. I've seen a rubber - Friendship/729 729-08 - and I think that's an interesting option, but my coach always said to me to buy the 2.0 version, because the max thickness version with the glue layers and the booster would surpass the legal 4 millimeters of the rubber height. I've never comproved that and this rubber has only the 2.15 mm version, what should I do?

Thanks in advance!

Best Regards,

My conjecture,

2.15 mm version IS the version Your coach asking about, cause,

1.5 1.8 and 2.0 mm H3 virtually abandoned, making 2.15 and max (2.5 mm) the only one in circulation. :)

Oh thought it was 2.0, and the max was 2.15, thank you so much! :D

You might find them listed as 2.0 and 2.2, haven´t seen either max or 2.5 in listings, but no doubt that is around as well depending on supplier.

I find this consequential by the way, if you have an offensive rubber make it thick - whenever I see German Tensor rubbers with 50 degree sponge, optimized for high performance spin game, listed in 1.7 mm I think "who´ll buy these?". I mean, it´s like getting a Porsche and then limit the engine to 100 horsepower ...

Anyway, you really might beware the thickest version of Chinese rubbers as their quality control can be dubious. But if you don´t play where rubbers are tested, you shouldn´t be too worried about your rubber exceeding the limit a little.

Changing your rubber from T05 to chinese rubber is quite a challenge.
You have to invest a lot of time to understand how the chinese rubber work.
In the long run, it is a good investment for your technique. Especially under chinese coach.
If you can get the real H3 Neo Provincial, then go for it. Beginning with the 39-deg sponge hardness.
And BTW, rubber thickness for the H3 Neo Provincial is only 2.1 or 2.15 avaliable.

Careful when you say "Changing your rubber from T05 to chinese rubber is quite a challenge". This is not true for all Chinese rubbers. Example, players I know have few problems going from T05 to H8, it usually comes down to simple preference. However, T05 to H3 takes a much greater time and effort and usually ends up ( in my limited experience) with the same players returning to T05.
T05 enslavement is real and very difficult to extract oneself from.

Well most of the tournaments that I go the rubbers are not tested, but I like to play with a "legal" racket, besides the booster. It's more unfair to who follows the rules and don't boost rubbers to the people who boost.

I can buy that but I want to try a cheaper rubber before, like 729-08. Then I'll spend the 85,90€ on a H3 Neo Provincial! :p

What a big list  Maybe I'll try some of the chinese rubbers you have in that list! Euro/Jap Rubbers that I've tried, none of them could suit my forehand so good like Tenergy 05

Yeah, you're totally right, and that's probably gonna happen to me. But at least I would like to try the sensation to play with a chinese rubber on my forehand. I'll loose power on my stroke, but to compensate that I will change from the treiber K I'm using to my Viscaria. I think it's also the ideal time to change, because that chinese trainer that I had corrected my forehand stroke and now I'm more consistent and I can use the rotation of the ball better to give more power to the stroke!! I'f i don't like, maybe I'll return to the Tenergy 05. though I would prefer a harder version of Tenergy 05 if it exists! :p

Going from Treiber K to Viscaria to get more speed is like changing from the left backseat of your car to your right backseat and hope to arrive faster... The blades are pretty much identical, the Treiber K is a Viscaria clone. If it is heavier it will be faster, yes, but the blade composition is the same.

I don't share the same experience, I've used Timo Boll Spirit and Timo Boll ALC a long ago, and I've changed to Viscaria with the poly ball change. I had some issues to playing with poly ball, and the representative of Andro in Portugal advised me that I had some errors in my technique and I should get a slower blade and train to correct them, that Viscaria was too fast for me in that time. Well, I thought about Michael Maze ALC(I tried korbel before and I hated it, so 5 plywood for me was out) and I got Treiber K, I've tried two of them and all had the same feeling of Viscaria but much more controlable, slower and had more flex. And yeah, I've worked on my technique 3 years with Andro Treiber K and my strokes are much more consistent. But that's my experience. Now I got back to Viscaria and feel more stiff and fast than Treiber K
