In our club we tryed to help one of the coaches, who is the current national champion 50+ here, but couldn't finance

The veteran Erich Arndt from our neighbour club is gonna attend at the 80+ event. He's the one who introduced the topspin in Germany in the Fifties.
Looking forward how he will perform.

Yes, cost is a significant issue (4 years ago it was in New Zealand, which was likely even more of a challenge for some folks). I suspect visa problems could be a factor too, organizers mentioned quite a few recent withdrawals.

Visa problems and injuries have definitely been an issue for attendance. Right now the entries are holding just below 4,000. Still the event broke the record for the highest number of participating countries, so it's going to be a stunner!

Different age groups...

But don't they have open event where all ages can play? If there is Open event I'd think Weixing Chen will win.

Nope, only age/gender based groups for singles and doubles.

I see. They assume >40 champ is open winner.

I spotted David Zhuang on the list. He's 6 time US National Men's Champion, 9 times US Men's Doubles Champion, 6 times US Mixed Doubles Champion, and 3 time US Olympian.

Yup - he also ended up in the same group (player #4 ) as Ding Yi, presumably #1 overall seed in this age group. Two players advance into championship round, so he's probably OK, but still, seeding could've been better.

At the veteran competitions over here older players are allowed to participate in younger players division but not vice versa. That means if you're 60+ you could play in the 40+ or the 50+ division, but if you're 40+ you cannot attend at the 50+ division and so on)...

Sensible enough. The older ones should be encouraged and given little sense of belonging. Old soldiers never die.

Any live video daily action of these events ?

It would be nice if 1 table was designated for live YouTube each day. Maybe change the age group everyday.

Three players from the association I manage in Brittany (France) are in Vegas : David Levalois, François Heitzmann and Christian Oublier, all playing in the 45-50yo category. David and François were in the game in MS45 draw until the 1/16, where David lost against Lorestas Trumpauskas (ENG) and François lost against ... Chen Weixing ! This last match was captured in video, so it will be published in the next days on our Youtube channel (search for OC CESSON Tennis de Table) ! Pictures are available on our FB page (occtt) !
