Hello guys,

I've been playing with a H3 NEO BS 40º degree hardness and I've bought 2 sheets of 729-08 Pro 47º degrees. I would like to change to the same sponge hardness that my H3. Don't want harder, because I tried a 41 Degree H3 NEO BS, and iit felt to hard to me, though it was less tacky, so I would like to a hardness between 39~40º in DHS scale. What I've seen on some websites:

729 || DHS
45° ~ 36º-37º
47° ~ 38º-39º
49 ~ 40º-41°

If it is, what hardness I should choose for me? I'm boosting 729-08(47º) and didn't tried it yet, but I'm afraid that's too soft for me. But 729-08 Pro it's only produced in 45/47, only the commercial 729-08 has 49 degree. So the Pro version has a different scale? Someone knows why isn't produced? Thanks in advance.

Best Regards,
Eduardo

Why not the provincial dhs orange sponge with purple box that is 39 degrees?

I tried 729-08 commercial from my chinese coach and I loved it. But I don't remember the hardness. My coach said that I should give a try on 729 products and I bought, but didn't glue them yet. And they seem good quality and cheap so I was asking to choose the right hardness to me :/ Wasn't the old Hurricane 3 because for speed glue era?

Hey Eduardo, GiangT has posted this table here a while ago. It explains how different sponge hardnesses can be compared.

Well the hardness for the sponges are standardized, but the are given in both Shore A or C. In Europe they often use Shore C where as in Asia they use Shore A.
I have attached a picture showing the scale where Shore C is on the left and the equivalent in Shore A is on the right.

I am wondering why creating one no. For each rubber hardness? Some companies get away just noting the hardness on the packing... maybe that is public service ;)

Hi Eduardo. No u can't distinguish it entirely that way, but some companys use Shore A and others Shore C. In your case with 729 Friendship has used Shore C as reference.

Why are you boosting 729-08? 729-08 series is much softer then DHS Hurricane series and Skyline series. Most people in China do not boost 729-08, because the sponge is already soft enough. If you boost 729-08, you might end up damaging the sponge because it's not meant to be boosted. DHS rubbers are meant to be boosted. 729-08 and 729-08 ES already work great without boosting. Of course, boosted H3 will definitely outperform unboosted 729-08. Whether to go with unboosted 729-08 or boosted H3 depends on your skill level and personal preference. Personally, I'm fine with unboosted 729-08 at 47 and 49 degree hardness, depending on the blade I'm using.

Well maybe the most of non-professional players don't boost in China. Last two seasons I had a chinese coach and he quit CNT in '85 I think( when the rules changed and the racket must had a red and black rubber, he was an anti-spin chopper) and he plays with a 729-08 boosted with 6-8 layers of glue in FH and I can tell you it played really really awesome. At least he says chinese rubbers should always be boosted, and not bigger than 2.1 thick, because of the booster and the glue, and besides, he prefers 729 over DHS rubbers

You can boost the hurricane 3. With the 39 degree sponge it can be spfter after boosting.

So the NEO it's just marketing? And less tacky to be faster? If it's just that maybe I would prefer non NEO, as I like tackier chinese rubbers

If you are going to boost, you should probably go with the regular H3.

Exactly. The H3 was designed for speedglue era, whereas the H3N is better for oil boosters.
Also the topsheets aren't the same. The H3's topsheet is a bit thicker and pretty close to indistructable, whereas the H3N is a bit more delicate and starts showing usage marks quite soon, but nevertheless it lasts and lasts and lasts..... and oh yeah: it lasts

Exactly my observation as well. Boosting H3 (tried both commercial and national) with Haifu Seamoon doesn't change it's properties that much. H3 Neo on the other hand becomes dramatically different.

(Also tried it with Falco and it's the same - no effect).

I boosted my H3 Neo for the first time with Falco Long.

I had used Falco Tempo (I don't think they make that anymore) some time back and never thought it made much of a difference.

That wasn't the case this time. The speed and more importantly spin was a nice boost. Only 1 week with it but yeah it was pretty good.

Side note, man that's a small bottle. 150 ml for $30. The tempo I had back in the day I think was 250. Granted it wasn't supposed to be as strong. Anyways, next time I might try some other boosters just to see. But I guess Lidu & Haifu are roughly the same price via ttnpp. Lidu - $30 for 150ml & Haifu $45 for 250.
