GAC GROUP 2012 ITTF World Tour, Spanish Open, 18 Apr 2012 - 22 Apr 2012, Almeria, Spain

Total number of player entries is: 147

While several European players are fighting for a ticket for the Olympics, others are preparing for the next World Tour event, this time in Spain. Timo Boll retreated 2 days before the start of the tournament, which means we still won't see him in a World Tour event this year. Could Dimitrij Ovtcharov step up after his great performance at the WTTTC, where he beat Jun Mizutani, the nr.1 seed? Or will Mizutani win his second title this year after the recent Kuwait Open 2012? And what about Chuang and Samsonov?

Live matches from the Spanish Open World Tour can be watched in our ITTF Live Streaming (http://www.tabletennisdaily.co.uk/forum/ittfstream.php) which has integrated Chat (http://www.tabletennisdaily.co.uk/forum/ittfstream.php)

Jun Mizutani the World no.7 enters the Spanish Open World Tour as the number 1 seed!

This is going to be a big tournament so lets get started by discussing the seeds. Can Jun Mizutani prove he is the number 1 seed by winning the event? Will in form Dimitrij Ovtcharov cause trouble? We can use this thread as a means to display all the latest results, videos and news from this spectacular event! What are your predictions from each event?

I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a thing between Ovtcharov and Mizutani. although, upsets are possible and that's what I like :p
Looking forward to it after a great Olympic Qualification :)
I hope Machado Carlos does great! Played well during the qualification but it wasn't enough :/

Hahahaha didn't mean to rush you buddy:).
So, Timo's out from the seed eh? That means he might be meeting the seeds earlier in the rounds. Bad news for the seeds I guess hehehe

I´m afraid he won´t be playing because of injuries again...

interesting that dima got more votes than mizu :D if dima had lost against him at the wtttc how would the vote look like now? :P ... think the final will between both .. but without 10.000 people in his back, dima will be tested.

Welcome to the site barca :) That would be a valid reason as well indeed. I'm not sure what the real reason is, but I think the Chinese usually skip the tournaments that give less Pro Tour points, especially when they are far away. Maybe they rather practise instead :)

He is in the main draw and it will be interesting to see how he fares against the rest of the world. It would be quite the result if he can win 2 or 3 matches here.

As for overall tournament, I always feel the viewing pleasure is somewhat decreased without the Chinese players even though they make the result a little inevitable. Nonetheless, there are a few matches I'm looking forward to and looking past the obvious (possible) final of Mizutani-Ovtcharov. There is also Chen Weixing, Matsudaira and Gao Ning who are always entertaining. I also feel Gao Ning has a very good chance of upsetting the two favourites here.

I guess that rest translates to multiball in Liu Guoliang's mind. :D

Let me correct you here Tadex, the viewing pleasure is not decreased, it's practically zero!! I am the only one watching Gao Ning playing his 2nd match hahaha

BTW according to video stream worst pro tour each year, they still didnt do anything with that poor picture..

I have a feeling Chuang will win this one now. Samsonov and Lee don't quite have the same athleticism.

04-22-2012, 01:36 PM
not sure about chuang vs lee- ill go with chuang because I prefer watching him play more than Lee Jung Woo.
Womens- again not sure as its an all korean match but i checked the rankings and yang ha eun beat kim the only time theyve played in last 4 years so shed be slight fave, thn again kim beat fukuahara who she lost to at the wtttc then dug really deep to overcome ishikawa, saving yet more match points against her...hopefully it will be a good attak vs defense match!
i think kim and park will win the womens doubles- i love their doubles play, although silbereisen and wu do have a chance- wu is competant vs defense and silbereisen bet park 4-0 in singles, plus they practice with ivancan all the time...
I think jun and kenji will win the mens doubles but yang zi and zhan jian have got a very good chance of an upset- jun will be v.tired after his earlier match..

Hopefully a good afternoon of tt in store!

Great, an underdog win! Good for the sport that not always the favs wins, it shows that it is possible to win for the lower ranked players as well :D

Chuang was a very good player during his peak in speed glue era. I'm believe he was in the top 10 during those days. But it just that there were Ma Lin and Wang Liqin during those days that prevent him to get a better achievement
