ITTF Stars: Yu Mengyu Announces Retirement
Singapore’s Yu Mengyu has announced her retirement from professional table tennis following a 16 year playing career. The statement came following Yu receiving the Star Player of the Year at the Singapore Table Tennis Association’s (STTA) Annual Awards Night on 22 March.
"Today, it's the time to say goodbye, this is a very important moment in my life. Looking back through the past 16 years in my athletic career, it is full of touching moments and honors," wrote Yu in a post on her Facebook page.

Yu Mengyu (Chinese: 于梦雨; pinyin: Yú Mèngyǔ; born 18 August 1989) is a Singaporean table tennis player. As a regular member of the Singapore national team, she won her first silver medal in the team event at the Asian Table Tennis Championships in 2007 when she was 17 years old. She was also part of the team that won the 2010 World Table Tennis Team Championship in Moscow, becoming world champions for the first time.She represented Singapore at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in both the team and singles events, reaching the quarter-finals in both. She also represented Singapore at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, reaching the individual semi-finals and finishing 4th.
