An aptitude test is a test used to determine an individual's skill or tendency to succeed in a particular activity.
Aptitude tests assume that individuals have inherent strengths and weaknesses, and have a natural tendency toward success or failure in certain areas based on their innate characteristics.
Note that the aptitude test does not only test knowledge or intelligence but a particular skill or disposition and therefore, it is not a test that anyone can study for.

An aptitude test is used to determine an individual's ability, and to assess how he would likely perform in a field in which he has no prior training or knowledge.
Schools use aptitude tests to determine whether students are inclined towards advanced classes or certain areas of study, such as engineering or a foreign language.
In the world of work, human resources departments in some companies will use job evaluation tests to learn about the strengths and weaknesses of a potential candidate.
