The ITTF have just released the latest World rankings! The rankings were published by the International Table Tennis Federation on Wednesday 4th July 2012.

--- Zhang Jike is still the World number 1 ---

As the Chinese players are having a closed training for the upcoming London Olympics, the whole top 4 remained the same as last month. But there sure are some interesting changes in the subtop!

Jun Mizutani's latest successes have certainly paid off by letting him rise up to the 5th place, passing Ma Lin and... Timo Boll! Timo drops down to the 7th place after a disappointing defeat in the Round of 32 at the Japan Open. This is his lowest ranking in the past 4 years.

Another interesting change is the following. Right after the Japan Open, Joo Se Hyuk, Oh Sang Eun and Ryu Seung Min traveled to Brazil for the last World Tour Event before the Olympics. As TTTT predicted earlier:

TTTT said:
If it comes to all-Korean matches, Oh will beat Ryu and Joo because he can still pass Ovtcharov in the world ranking, which would be important for team seeding at the Olympics.
And it actually worked out that way; Oh Sang Eun won the Brazil Open after beating Joo Se Hyuk. This final boost helped Oh Sang Eun to pass Dimitrij Ovtcharov and secure the 11th place.

Other big changes:
29 (56) Alexander Shibaev
60 (120) Jung Young Sik
86 (60) Jean-Michael Saive

The July Women's World Rankings have one really interesting change: Kim Kyung Ah starts threatening the Chinese top players by jumping from the 11th to the 5th spot.

Korea's Jung, Young-Sik has been back and forth in the big boyz ITTF list, although he ruled the U21 rankings. He plays hard, but his knock has been lack of finishing power. That has left him the odd man out in the Korea team lately, but make no mistake, JYS is for real and he will move up more than WR80. Korea has 5 or more players in the pipeline who can crack the top 20 ITTF in the next year or so. Japan has even more, although it will take a few more years.

Great work from Jun! Does this mean he will be in the same half of the schedule with Wang Hao in the Olympics? Not sure if that is an advantage :p In that case Timo will will be in Zhang Jike's half.

I think Jun has a better chance to beat Wang Hao than Zhang Jike... and a slightly bigger chance at beating Timo than beating Wang Hao: but regardless, he will have to play one of the top chinese players. This seems like the ideal place for him to be.

Well he has given Zhang Jike some trouble in the past, I can't remember much Jun - Wang matches but I believe Wang doesn't have too much trouble with him most of the time. Against Timo Jun always loses in the 7th set :p

I guess this means China will meet Germany in the semi-final.

Not necessarily, it depends on the draw (50-50 chance). #1 seed can meet either #3 or #4 in the semis.
