London 2012 Olympic Games ,28 July 2012 - 08 August 2012, London, England

I think we've seen some amazing matches and big surprises the last few days during the Olympic Singles event. But we're just halfway! The Olympic Team event already starts tomorrow. Once again similar to that of Beijing Olympics in 2008, China occupy the top seeded places for the Men's and Women's Team event. The seedings have been based on the most recent ITTF World Ranking List (http://www.tabletennisdaily.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?3041-July-World-Rankings-2012) published by the International Table Tennis Federation on Wednesday 4th July 2o12.

So now we will finally get to see the other top players! Ma Long, Ryu Seung Min, Koki Niwa, etc... Could they add a surprise to the upcoming Team Event? And in case China continues dominating in London, who will get the Silver and Bronze medal?

We can use this thread as a means to display all the latest results, videos and news from this spectacular event! What are your predictions for each event?

i reckoned it would happen- feng may have beaten kim k.a but kim piled herself under way too much pressure and played poor, feng usually sucks against defence (except against park mi young lol :P )
perssson just blew a match point vs timo...

well first was crisan, who is very very good vs boll- 14 wins v timo in bundesliga i think?
and persson is an old master of the sport, and today he had a very good match, and gave a masterclass- timo didnt do much wrong, he was just comprehensively outplayed.
he may pick up form, he may not...but that was certainly an emphatic way for jp to say goodbye to the olympics, thats for sure! :P

lol Gerell Par called a time out at 12:11 with Dimitrij Ovtcharov. And at the end of it Dimitrij started arguing to the umpire that the ball is broken. The swede's coach says: now you say the ball is broken, and the whole altercation starts that lasts at least for 3 minutes :D

China will take gold 110% !
On second place I think that will be Japan , and third - Germany ))

Korea wins 3-1 over DPRK.

Korea waz down 0-1 afte Oh lost his singles match, then Joo wins, then Oh/Ryu win Doubles, then after spotting his opponet a 2-1 game lead, Ryu dominates the next 2 games to win 3-2 for Korea nad a 3-1 Korea match win!

Recently I believe Japan dominates Korea in the Semi-final, and then leaves Germany vs Korea for Bronze (which I think will be a very interesting match, but I see it as Korea's medals to lose.)

I think Korea will win...Japanese are all bad vs defence, so thats 2 wins by Joo...then its up to ryu or oh to either beat kishikawa/niwa or win the doubles...
my prediction is
1) China
2)korea
3) Germany
4) Japan

Well just watched Ma Long vs. Ning Gao and I have to say, wov!
Ma Long was on fire!
Anyways - after second game, what was Liu Guoliang telling him?
He destroyed opponent 11:5 and still he was talking and talking to him.. what did he say?
Right after that Ma Long was 0:4 down, lol .. then back to 5:6 and then 6 points in a row to 11:6, impressive!

And Japan currently struggling with Hong Kong .. hm!!
They look like they are going to lose for now..

Awesome Japanese girls!
Yeah!
They beat Singapore for the first time, they always lose to them! :)

Comments from Ai FUKUHARA and Sayaka HIRANO (JPN) after Japan beat Singapore 3-0 in the semifinals of the women's table tennis team event at ExCeL on Sunday.

Ai FUKUHARA:

On advancing to the final, which means Japan will win at least a silver medal: "I really don't know what to say, I can't believe it. This is one medal for three (the three-member Japanese team)."

Sayaka HIRANO:

On the win: "The reason we won is because we had nothing to lose. We had never won a team game against Singapore before, so we just went for it."

On Ai Fukuhara winning the first game against London 2012 singles bronze medallist FENG Tianwei (SIN): "She is the bronze medallist, so winning the first game was such a positive moment for us and such a negative moment for Singapore."

On their guaranteed medal in the competition: "I am so happy I can win a medal with these wonderful girls. Singapore are such a strong team - we have never beaten them before - but we tried our very best and won."

On whether they can win gold: "I really don't know. We will wait and see which team we play (China play Korea in the second semifinal on Monday). But I think if we play like we did today we can beat anyone."
"This is such an achievement for table tennis in Japan, now our goal is to win gold for the three of us. It is something Japan has been waiting for, for such a long time."
"Before this Olympic Games we were made second seeds so the expectation is very high - our ability is much better than in the last Olympic Games (Beijing 2008)."

On their support: "All our families are here - it means so much to have the support from them and the whole Japanese nation."

This was just so super match!
I love the fact they are in the final and they believe they can win! :)

No surprises in the Women Team Final!

Oh and congrats to China's women team too for keeping their record as steady as ever!

Michal_Z
08-07-2012, 05:50 PM
Seriously this is nonsens. . at least we say so, when something is meaningless..
Why they should play???
They seriously should give them gold medals just for comming there, send them home and thats it!!
All the play was completely useless.. Chinese women lost 4 games in whole team event!
I mean - what is the point???
They really should give them medals and let others compete for silver and bronze medals instead of this..
They are so good that it feels really unfair for others to play with them.

I really didnt like watching chinese women team play.
No matter what the opponents brought, what they came up with, it was no matter for the result.

And hell yeah, it was so boring..
3:0, 3:0, 3:0, 3:0 .. sometimes 3:1, wov! That had to be somene really good .. uff ..

So that is my view ..

Steven

The chinese are too good...i think its about time the other countries started communicating, holding joint training camps with all the top players on a REGULAR basis, to ensure high quality practice...only then will the ROW catch up with China.

its a long road, but i have faith it may happen one day! :)

Why did Hongkong setup Leung as the first player against Germany? Tang Peng and Jiang Tainyi are playing way better.. Blocking and some weak loops was all he could do against Boll. Not that I care but it's like Germany would setup Steger as their first player.

Why did Hongkong setup Leung as the first player against Germany? Tang Peng and Jiang Tainyi are playing way better.. Blocking and some weak loops was all he could do against Boll. Not that I care but it's like Germany would setup Steger as their first player.

Leung would have had to play boll at one point anyway, if they had swapped him and jiang around then he would play boll 4th...i guess they thought jiang's chancs would be better later on in the match, and didnt want tang to play timo, they would have wanted him to play steger last so thats why he played econd i guess...lol :P

As expected...don't know whether this is healthy for the sport.

It was an exciting match between joo n zjk nevertheless. Joo had an outstanding game mixing up his chops with toospins, sidespins and even backhand flicks with his long pips. Zjk showed his mettle as Olympic champion by taking his game up a notch in the 3rd and 4th games

Ma Long's superb yesterday. his strong top spins around the both corner killed Ryu Seung Min.

The full highlight is here.

Because we're not allowed to upload them for copyright issues. Check out this thread to find some videos:

What a shame. So many good matches from olympics... Won't you can upload it after a time?
