Now that the Olympics Games are over (wow, it all went by so fast!), it's time for the ITTF to release the August World Rankings...

--- Grand Slammer Zhang Jike still World No.1---

Zhang Jike managed to win the WTTC, Men's Singles World Cup AND the Olympic Games in the past year and a half which makes him the obvious World No.1.

Another player who showed great form in London the last couple weeks is Dimitrij Ovtcharov. Not only has he won 2 Bronze medals, he also reaches the 9th spot on this month's ranking; his highest ranking ever. Joo Se Hyuk leaves the top 10 after a disappointing singles' tournament, though he probably won't mind after winning the Silver medal in the Olympic team event.
Several other players who have done well at the Games, such as Jiang Tianyi, Michael Maze, Adrian Crisan, Tang Peng and Marcos Freitas, have climbed a couple spots.
Ofcourse the biggest change is made by William Henzell; after beating Adam Pattantyus and Joao Monteiro, and an amazing match against Vladimir Samsonov, he jumps from the 130th spot to the 91st place!

The new Women's World Rankings show several changes in the top 10. Olympic champion Li Xiaoxia grabs the 2nd place while Silver medalist Ding Ning remains the World No.1. Kim Kyung Ah couldn't keep the 5th place she won last month. She drops back to the 8th spot.

Other big changes:
38 (77) Kim Hyok Bong
63 (90) Jorgen Persson
83 (107) Paul Drinkhall
95 (131) Daniel Zwickl

What do you all think of the new world rankings? Could Dimitrij Ovtcharov be a real threat to the Chinese now? Will Zhang Jike ever leave the top spot? Remember, the Harmony China Open starts at the end of this month! Let's discuss!

I am only surprised that Chuang still didnt jump over Timo..
He played pretty well.. But he is only like 30 points behind Timo now..
Also Tang Peng jumped 4 places up and interestingly Steger dropped a little..

Ariel Hsing jumped from 115 to 78, wov, nice jump!
Samara Elizabeta from 52 to 36, also nice!

Will's training in Austria clearly paid off...shows that putting in hard work pays off

So true, I also thought Henzell's mentality at the Olympics was exceptional! I think not just his game has improved but his mental state to! He was so focussed, constantly in the zone and gave what he had to the table on every point. Was a pleasure to follow his progress and it's great to have him on board here on the site!

What an Olympics!!
