The ITTF have released the latest World rankings! The rankings were published by the International Table Tennis Federation on Thursday 4th October 2012.

--- Grand Slammer Zhang Jike still World No.1---

Zhang Jike managed to win the WTTC, Men's Singles World Cup AND the Olympic Games in the past year and a half which makes him the obvious World No.1.

Interesting fact is that both World Cup 2012 winners, Liu Shiwen and Ma Long, take up the nr.2 spot this month!
This means that the results of the upcoming Chinese national championships can be really interesting!

Meanwhile someone silently starts breaking the Chinese dominance... Timo Boll retrieves his top 5 spot after reaching the World Cup final! Another jump in the top 10 is made by Chuang Chih-Yuan. His impressive 4-0 victory paid off and gave him the 8th place.
Ofcourse there are other players who've performed well at the World Cup. Belarus' Vladimir Samsonov slowly crawls back towards his good old top 10 after winning Bronze last week. Denmark's Michael Maze enters the top 15 after winning his group and France's Adrien Mattenet jumps up 5 places for his win over Oh Sang Eun.

The Women's rankings show two big changes. Spain's Shen Yanfei finished 3rd at the Women's World Cup which made her jump from the 14th to the 9th spot, which is her best ranking ever. An even more impressive achievement was that of Romania's Samara Elizabeta. She reached the World Cup final at her debut and now enters the top 25 for the first time at spot nr23.

Furthermore several young Chinese who have participated in the Harmony China Open have rised on the list:

53 (64) Yan An
69 (97) Fang Bo
85 (--) Zhou Yu

36 (53) Chang Chenchen
78 (124) Liu Gaoyang

What do you all think of the new world rankings? Will Zhang Jike ever leave the top spot? Can Timo Boll and Vladimir Samsonov return to their old positions again? Discuss about it here!

haha nice, Zhou Yu appears out of nowhere and is rank 85 already. I really hope he makes additional improvements in his game and continues to get a chance to appear in international play.
