Okay so again... What's Xu Xin doing in the first stage?
It is Coach Qin Zhijian's “application result”, because he want Xu Xin to get more exercise..:) as usual Xu Xin really don't need play in this stage.

Another reason is Shang Kun was injured and Xun Xin instead of him.

He's a junior player, and he is chopper.
He is the champion of the 2011 China national Junior Table Tennis Chamipionships (4:0 Yan An in the final), and 2012 he won the title again (4:3 Fan Zhendong in the final).

This is quite confusing to me..
This is how I took it: 20 players qualified for the second stage (either by rank in 1st stage or because they are national team players). From those 20, 9 will go on to the 3rd stage. From those 9, 3 will be selected by fans through polls on popular Chinese websites. 2 will be selected by the coaches. the remaining 4 will be determined by ranking in the second stage. If that clears things up :P

I am curious though, why do only 5 players go to Paris? In Rotterdam there were I believe 8 Chinese players.. Is ITTF reducing the amount of players per country in WTTC now as well? :\

Michal_Z
01-04-2013, 07:17 AM

So to sum up because i think some got it wrong:

There are 20 players at the moment in stage 2!
From these 20 players fans can vote. The 3 players with the most votes qualify immediately into round 3 without playing.
So we are left with 17 players. These player play all games to determine the best 4, which are also qualified to the round 3.
So there are 13 players who didn't entered but the trainer-staff are allowed to choose 2 more players to qualify for round 3.

So:
3 (through votes) + 4 (through games) + 2 (through trainer) = 9

These 9 play in the last round and 5 of them go to Paris.

Xii, haven't you watched the wttc in rotterdam? Ma Long, Wang Hao, Zhang Jike, Quen Qi and Wang Liqin were all in the quarterfinals. Thus more then 2 and i think we had this discussion once that only in the world cup and olympics is the maximum of 2 per country.

Why are only 5 people going to the wttc this year if there were 7 in 2011?

Why are only 5 people going to the wttc this year if there were 7 in 2011?

"In singles, an Association may enter 5 men and 5 women, with 1 additional player
in the appropriate event for each player in the first 20 places in the No.1 issue of
the ITTF World Ranking list in 2013 up to a limit of 2 additional men and 2
additional women in singles."

- so 5 base entry + an additional number equal to the number of players a country has in the top 20 rank, up to a limit of 2
in china's case, 8 chinese men are in top 20 (I think), and it exceeds the limit of 2, so china will just get 7 entries.

from the ittf website http://www.ittf.com/competitions/competitions2.asp?Competition_ID=2190&category=WTTC
there is a link called "prospectus - information",whatever that means.

For your second question, I only started watching tt in 2012, so I have no idea how china picked the final 2 player in 2011, or how they will pick in 2013. I am guessing it will be likely coaches' pick, but this is only a wild guess.

Ok, thanks. I guess with Li Na you have a big superstar in China! Do you have good volleyball-players?
There are many good volleyball players in China team when they got the champion in Athens 2004, like Zhao Ruirui, Feng Kun, Yang Hao and Zhou Suhong, they are famous in the world, but now China had less good volleyball players, may be Hui Ruoqi is the best one, and she is a cute girl haha..

2011 Rotterdam China team:

Single: Zhang Jike, Ma Long, Xu Xin, Wang Hao, Ma Lin, Wang Liqin, Chen Qi
Man's Double: Wang Hao / Zhang Jike, Ma Lin / Chen Qi, Ma Long / Xu Xin
Mixed Double: Hao Shuai, Zhang Chao, Yan An

10 players in Rotterdam, think you already forgot Zhang Chao and Yan An.. :)

Oh yea...

Thanks Tommy for your contribution, really valuable information you have there! It is pretty cool that they let fans decide too. I think Zhang Jike, Ma Long and probably Xu Xin get the votes.Yea that's probably true that ZJK, ML and XX will get highest votes.

No, online poll is only for mans, this new rule is not for womans :)

Pretty sexist eh?
;)
What is sexist about it? It's Marketing! maybe they also know that the 3 players to receive the most votes are anyway the players who would have qualified through gaming also. Thus the chance of getting sick, hurt or tired (both mentally and physically) are decreased.
furthermore you let people particiapte at the trials and let them be part of the "show"

How? How would you imply that polls on woman get you more money if you already have a poll

jmillsy2

They can make more money if they also have women.

I think it is because all the top chinese women are extremely close- they have 7 playes in the top 12 in the world. that is their whole quota for the worlds.
so i expect the coaching staff probably wish for them toplay against each other so an order of sorts can be esteblished more clearly- as they are clearly the best women in the world, they face next to no challenge from foreigners, the only challenge is from each other. also all the other good chinese women who are not in the top 7 (Wen Jia, Feng Yalan, Zhu Yuling et al) will wish to prove themselves and the staff probably wish to give them all a chaance.
so the staff probably wish for them to play matches against each other more.
whereas with the men, i would say ma long zhang jike and xu xin are the best 3 easily, so the staff probably wont mind them skipping out on the second stage.

in short, the standards gap between the women is much less than between the men and so i expect the staff wish for all the women to play trials so that the best 7 go to the WTTC.

besides, the CTTA already has enough money :P

So many guys also care about the games for women :)

Here is the new rule for women:

There are 23 players in stage 1st (2-6 Feb), these player play all games to determine the best 2, which are could go to Paris directly ! And if a player who can won consecutive 2 singles champions in Kuwait Open and Qatar Open also could direct to Paris.

14 players will play in 2nd stage, but the schedule and rule hasn't been announced.

T!Christian
01-06-2013, 01:07 PM
To sum up (to be sure if i have understood it :) )

23 players compete in the first stage. The best 2 go directly to the WTTC.
And i 14 playersgo into stage 2 this means that number 3-16 from the first round (since the first 2 already qualified) go to second stage.
If somebody though wins the Kuwait Open and the Qatar Open she also gets directly qualified.

My questions:
What if one of the best two of the first 26 wins both tournaments? or nobody does? will the spot be left or filled with another?
How about second stage? How many people there go to the (if there is one) third stage?

:)

Well if I could decide, I would say I dont want to see Ma Lin play ever again, hehe :D
He is old and fat for me now, so thats it for me..

Anyways - I agree to what Super Chopper wrote and I think this is pure media marketing stuff, they know who will win the vote and they know they would put through ZJK, ML and XX into Paris anyways..
So when the decision is made, why not make some extra money on it? :)

Players like Ma Long and Zhang Jike should be able to qualify without the need of this voting system, so I'm voting for one of the younger talents... I was thinking of Yan An and Fan Zhendong... but because Yan An doesn't seem to be popular at all I voted for Fan.

Yea he hasn't got the power of the top-5 Chinese. If you compare him to them, he might be not that good. But he is as good as any non-Chinese player at least, and in WTTC 2011 trials he did an amazing job as well, beating the top players in China. Also in the Super League, so in the end he does have that level I guess.

No for me the numbers are pretty low? Everyone in china had multiple votes, you have to divide the votes with 4 or something like that and compare that number to the chinese population (with internet access) it's no secret that Tabletennis is going downhill in China ... if you look at CTTSL => empty gymnasium
Especially the younger generation is more interested in badminton, basketball and football than Table Tennis.

Like Liu Gouliang said:

Table Tennis has one big problem in China. It is getting boring because China is winning everything but if China lose everyone is upset and want to fire the coaches, etc.

There are many dark horses in this tournament, so make a survey here !

Which 4 player you think could get in the next (3rd) stage ?

My answer is Xu Xin, Ma Long, Zhang Jike and Chen Qi, I think most guys will agree with me that "Big three" could get in the next stage, but who is the fourth winner in the 2nd stage ? Sure it is a interesting question..:)

May be LGL's words finally had some effect on him. Liu criticized both Xu Xin and Fang Bo in the trial and said XX is just too boring and soft like tap water, not hot nor cold and not acting like the world number one. Fang Bo is just the opposite and too aggressive. Always want to hit a winner with every stroke and can't adopt to his oppoments well, hence constantly lost in the deciding moments. He is more like a player trained in European than China. On the other hand ZJK got the best of both world that's why he is the Grand Slam Champ.

Yea, LGL's criticism also effect on Xu Xin, he got 4 consecutive wins yesterday..but today he had 2 very hard matches against with Ma Long and Zhang Jike, these 2 games is important for Xu Xin, if he can beat both of them sure it will help him get a lot of confidence..

Xu Xin pretty much raped both of them with his forehand, Ma Long seemed hopeless countering pretty much at least one of xx's forehands from bh and very often FH too, Ma Long looked like second class player against him. Zjk was able to block his spin in the BH but same as Ma Long wasn't able to counter FH to FH, seems like the new TG3 is helping XX a LOT.

I voted for Ma Long as he is my favourite player, but being honest here, as opposed and compared to players like Zhang Jike, Xu Xin and Wang Hao, Ma Long is much less mentally strong as the others. If you've seen his reportage, he takes winning and losing quite seriously as said by his coach in the reportage almost to the point where he becomes an introvert once again, as he was when he entered the Chinese National Table Tennis Team initially. People like Zhang Jike or Xu Xin can secure a win in my opinion. China focuses on wins, not just considering players individually, so they choose the ones they KNOW will secure a win to compete in events like WTTC or WTTTC. This is why Ma Long wasn't chosen to compete in the Individual Men's Singles in the London Olympics 2012.

I really want Ma Long to be the one going to WTTC 2013 in Paris, but based on his loss against Xu Xin and his inconsistencies quite recently, I doubt he would be the ideal one to go through D:

There are always talks of game fixing by fans on the losing side. It is nothing new. Even in last year's World Cup, there are people in China saying that XX was ordered to lost the game to Ma Long. XX was in top form beating everyone until he met Ma Long. It is being point out that suddenly he kept doing things terribly wrong. Later on he deliberately lost to Samsonov in an awful manner for protest. No one really knows how true the story is or everything is simply BS, but hopefully there is no gambling involved behind any TT games and corrupt our sport by fixing the results.

No in the 3rd Stage the players won't do such things. The problem is that in the 2nd stage there are so many ,,unknown'' players who wouldnt deserve to participate in Paris just because they have 1 or 2 good days. In the 3rd round there are almost only National Team members so everybody deserves it and is able to become World Champion

I don't know :(, afraid no simple way. I used Debut Video Capture http://www.nchsoftware.com/capture/index.html to grab video in full-screen mode (there is free version http://www.nchsoftware.com/capture/debutsetup.exe) or try another one.

There is an updated htm only version of the player, which uses original scripts and swf, and doesn't require additional files.

http://vod1.neulion.dnion.com/vod/cntv/2013/01/16/3431/whole_400.mp4/00/4552.mp4
http://vod1.neulion.dnion.com/vod/cntv/2013/01/16/3431/whole_800.mp4/00/4342.mp4
and so on.
So if you make a request http://vod1.neulion.dnion.com/vod/cntv/2013/01/16/3431/whole_800.mp4 you will get a whole video!
Numbers after whole_ mean I guess quality.

Maximal quality of streams seems to be whole_1600.mp4.
There is updated version of the player file I hope without timeout :)

Wow, this link seems to be downloadable with my Replay Media Catcher - so thank you very much! :-)

Could you possible help me once again by showing me how to find the http access logs myself (because I really don't know much about this kind of stuff... :))?

You can use httpfox (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/httpfox/)extension in Firefox to see all requests or something else.

You have to see strings like vod1.neulion.dnion.com/vod/cntv/2013/01/16/3431/whole_400.mp4/00/0142.mp4 when playing a video stream in logs.
Then you take beginning vod1.neulion.dnion.com/vod/cntv/2013/01/16/3431/ and add whole_1600.mp4
That's all.
Now you've got an URL vod1.neulion.dnion.com/vod/cntv/2013/01/16/3431/whole_1600.mp4 for the video with the best quality available.

I had not thought so, I wish it were not so arranged matches, I think Ma Long and Zhang Jike not take this as a real challenge, whether they should be or if the team wins xu xin even temperament by lack maturity, but they are fixed in the three Chinese team, my other favorite is chen qi as I love playing but it is very difficult, wonders what happened to lin Gaoyuan???

Would you be kind enough to post the links of videos you find so for those who don't have firefox can download without going through loops?
