Zhang Jike for now IMHO, but the position is changing all the time. ;)

Agreed :D Btw, I see you're using Nittaku Fastarc G-1! What is it like using that rubber? I was thinking of getting it before, but I stuck to the conventional Chinese style set-up, haha!

Ma long is a fantastic player , but how can he be the king with only one world title ?

Yes it's a good rubber, much better than the previous generation of rubbers by Nittaku. Great for blocking as well.

Ma Long and Zhang Jike were the kings last year but I think Xu Xin will be the king this year :P

Cool discussion. I personally feel Ma Long is the ultimate table tennis player. I think during his 51 match winning streak he was setting a standard for table tennis. Then he received an ankle injury which dropped him to world number 5. I think this is his year. However I have to say the trio of Zhang Jike, Xu Xin and Ma Long is just exceptional! They are all pushing one another to reach the highest limits in tt

Dan, can't you see that the thread is in the wrong section? O_O

On-Topic: The best changes many times, best players eventually get old and may not have the physical ability to play as well as the younger player (a great example is Xu Xin which currently took over Zhang Jike).

You need to be crowned to be a King ;). Ma Long and others will get their chance in Paris in May.

Even that doesn't crown you, if it does did Zhang Jike get crowned?

We forget people like, Liu, Kong, Persson, Waldner? :D

or is it only of the now active players and their current status?
Zhang, Ma and neither Xu are not even near them ;)

I would say it's Ma Long. Although he lacks the titles needed for the main grand slam, he made the 51 game winning streak, the time where he didn't drop a set during WTTTC 2012 and Swedish Open 2011, he has gained the most ITTF Pro Tour Titles naming him "Pro Tour King," and he has already completed all the other titles necessary for the super grand slam. He is beast!

Wang in pinyin means KING > Wang Hao, Wang Liqin, Wang Yuegu.. So Ma Long ain't a king, just a cross between a horse (Ma) and a dragon (Long)..

it's not about the name. it's the skills, the glory, and what's with today.

the question is invalid. there is no king :P but if I have to choose I will choose table tennis itself as the king
