World Cup 2010 Jun Mizutani - Zhang Jike

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxxJyY3hO68

Reason: I saw this match live on german tv and I can remember like it was yesterday. I have thought it would be an easy win for Zhang Jike, so I rooted for Mizutani .... and he played amazing. I couldn't believe my eyes but Mizutani eke out a 3-0 lead, but because of a wrong service he lost the fourth set ..... Jun kept fighting and get with amazing defence a match point! I jumped from my sofa ;) I thought Mizutani got it! He will beat Zhang. But who woould have thought it ? Zhang, the ice cold rebel turn the set and the complete match. He was 3-0 down and Jun got a matchpoint . Respect Zhang ! Best Match I have ever seen on TV!

Champions League: Timo Boll - Vladimir Samsonov

this is my favourite youtube match because of the nice rallies and most of all the mental strength of samsonov. Timo was leading 2-1, 10-3 but samsonov keeps fighting till the end and wins the match, nobody has ever thought he could win the match with 7 matchballs in a row against him,Boll couldn't believe what he was seeing but you know seeing is believing. What i also very liked was that the crowd never gave up even at 10-3. i'm sure this was one of the most historical matches ever thumbs up !!! pick me plz lol[/SIZE]

I have to say this is one of my favorites. It's hard to narrow it down to just one..But the reason I love this match is because Samsonov had such a passion during this tournament that he displayed time and time again, 1st when he beat Ma Long, then 2nd when he won the World Cup by defeating Chen Qi.
It was such a perfect display of mental toughness and thats what table tennis is all about. It's one big mind game. And with enough training, I believe anyone can become a champion. It's only a matter of how bad you want it.
We all know that Ma Long was in prime form here and it was no easy feat to take him down. The finals looked easier then this match and therefore I chose this one as my all time #1 match!

ai fukuhara vs the president/leader of china. even though it was not a professional match but the spirit of table tennis able to bring the two countries - japan and china - together. of course i personally like ai fukuhara as well. her smile is lovely. the leader of china always being cruel and mean in my point of view but through this match it opened my eyes. i able to see the smile from this leader. i wish both countries able to do more of these friendly table tennis matches. they are fun and meaningful!

Fantastic match. Shots and rallies are of the highest standard as expected but my favourite aspect of this game between Timo and Wang Liqin is the intensity of the players and the crowd involvement. This is what sport is all about!

Hope you enjoy!

this is my favorite match because there are many great rallies between these two great players. Also, it is the first time Wang Liqin defeated defeated Xu Xin in an ittf pro tour. Finally, Wang was down 3-1 but he caught up. This game shows his strong mental game.

Wang Liqin vs. Xu Xin - this is my favorite because the level of skill & athleticism shown in this game was ridiculous! Two of the very best players in the world & both personal favorites of mine firing on all cylinders from beginning to end! I think the epic rallies speak for themselves really!

For me, the match which stands above all others is very recent, only last week infact. I'm talking about the English Open men's QF between Wang Liqin and Xu Xin.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvqkITfXwRc

I watched it live from New Zealand which is 13 hours ahead of England, and I'd been watching events unfold all night so was pretty tired by then.
But as the sun was coming up, this match began, and I was astonished at the level Wang Liqin had been able to maintain even at 32! Xu Xin is a phenomenal player, but I knew it'd be a fight!
Wang Liqin is such a juggernaut. In my 8 years of playing and watching Table Tennis, this was the best I've ever seen. Consistently awesome to the last point.
Even in Wang's next match against Chen, it looked like he would come back and take it in the 7th! I was rooting for my fellow lefty Chen, but he sure kept me on the edge of my seat! ;)
I was also really impressed with Ma Lin's game against Ryu Seung Min. To be honest that's the best I've ever seen Ma play, he really is the master of over the table play.
Overall though, Wang vs Xu was the best. Truly fantastic. :D

This match between Ma Long and Wang Hao in the German Open is by far the best match and favorite I've seen. The quality of both players going at it with strong top-spins, counter top-spins, backhand loops and serves is fantastic. Having these two players also makes it a lot more interesting seeing that they're both in the top 5 and not to mention they have both been #1 in the world. This final, although not long, is always on the move and there's not one point that's boring. I don't want to ruin it to you by saying who won so watch it please. I truly recommend this match, you will enjoy it :D

Hope you like it as much as I like that bag haha :)

I think this match is incredible and the best final I have ever seen in my whole life. It is the final of the Qatar open 2009 between Timo Boll(World Number 1) and Ma Lin (Olympic Champion). The intensity of the match was absoutely incredible from both players, and some of the shots were unthinkable and very innovative. A match to go down in the history books!!! :-)

This is Joo Se Hyuk playing his best table tennis ever, playing against an all time great. The match goes to 7 games. Game 5 and game 7 both go to Deuce. In game 6 the score is 11-9. You cannot get a closer match than this and both players are so fast and so powerful. Kong does an amazing job of handling Joo's defence but I have never seen Joo attack so effectively and I have never seen him move so fast. There are so many amazing rallies in this match; long points where one or the other player gets put on defense and turns the tables switching to offense. It is also amazing to see Joo put Kong on defense. I have never seen a match as tight and competitive as this where there are so many amazing rallies. Half of the points in this match could be on a highlight reel.

It is remarkable how many risks Xu Xin takes in this game just to get a good forehand shot in. That's what i call passionate about your forehand. I mean, I still think Ma Long has a forehand that is ridiculously worthy of emulation, which is another reason why I love this game, but Xu Xin shows some great anticipation skills and strategy changes in the game that are also worth much recognition, as it helped him to eventually win.

Chen Qi vs. Xu Xin

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoZW_4hB1OM

It showed the best Chinese left-handed players, and proved that in order to become a better player, great work and determination is required. It reflected on Xu Xin's previous skills because if you were to compare his current with his former backhand, you will see he's gone a long way, and is trying to create history in the sport of Table Tennis. It shows many great points, and proves that consistency is key in winning in this table tennis world. :D

This is my favorite match of all time. This shows a very impressive match between the best chopper and the best aggressive player in table tennis. This is my favorite match because its very tiring and backbreaking for both guys. It's a very thrilling and close match and the result is unpredictable because of the high level of play of both guys. Its really impressive for Ma Long to win this match after being down 6-10 in the 7th set. "Ma Long showed here what a great champion should be, "A great champion should overcome all adversities."

In the Moscow team event, the women team of Singapore surprisingly went away with the victory. China being under pressure, and the men's final against Germany just to start exiting things could've happend. Timo Boll managed to win against Ma Long after being 0-2 down. Germany leading 1-0, Singapore just won against China and the idea of no women or men Chinese team on the 1st spot on a wtttc got probably everyone thrilled. Then Ma Lin came and totally destroyed the German dream, winning in straight sets against Ovtcharov and in 3-1 against Timo Boll. With Ma Lin being the decisive factor in this wtttc final for China, the struggle Ma Lin had to go through to reach the wtttc, being the last qualifier for the wtttc at the expense of Wang Liqin and all the feelings Ma Lin showed us of how determined he was to win this final. Is why I like this youtube match the most.

To me this is one of the best matches ever... not only because of being the Olympic champ vs the new world #1 but also because I saw the match live at Moscow, and it was incredible! It was the first time for me and our team in a WTTC and these kind of matches are even more impressive than showed on videos.
Really amazing how Ma Lin won this game to get the championship, even when he didn't played all the matches during the tournament... I guess only China can afford some strategy like that. :)

Michael Maze - Hao Shuai WTTC 2005

Hao Shuai played very well in the three first sets, but when Michael Maze played many high balls on the table he started to get big problems. I think this was a fantastic win for Maze, because he was under 0 - 3, and many points under in the fourth set and then he came back and won the match.I think it was great video, because it shows us that you are not fare from winning or loosing.

This is one of my favorite tablet tennis matches because of the final comeback by Ma Lin against Jan Ove Waldner (Both my favorite!). If I was in Ma Lin's position, I would have choked if I really wanted to win. In Waldner's position, I would have been relaxed knowing that I am only a point away to winning. Based on the conclusion of the game, I realize training the physical part of table tennis alone is not enough, I would also need to train my mind to deal with these situations. Even if a player practices many hours and develops a muscle memory for the consistent shots, the mind will either boost or hinder the muscle memory. I'm the kind of player who loves applying the mental aspect to table tennis. Over the years of playing, I've managed to develop a mindset to cope with these kind of pressures. During my recent tourney, I was able to turn the tables around in my favor (except for one match where I was down 4-10 and went up to 8-10).

Kenta Matsudaira and Ma Lin

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJmrk6jLBuY

This was the match that really brought attention to Kenta, my favorite player now, he seemed down and out and even after Ma Lin's comeback in the seventh, he looked like he could bring it back again with the insane backhand counterlooping rally at 9-7.... looked to be a huge upset, the crowd was roaring

I chose this video because Wang Liqin's victory in this match is truly inspiring.
You can clearly see Wang Liqin's concentration and motivation in his eyes. Throughout the first 2 sets Ma Lin is just Beasting and Wang Liqin can't quite keep up. Ma Lin is cheering loud with motivation and determination. He is really Hyped up and eager to win. Not only to win the title but to take it off his biggest rival.
Wang Liqin managed to get the upper hand in the 3rd set winning it comfortably. But the determined Ma Lin came straight back at him in the 4th giving Wang Liqin no time to think he will take this match.
But what happens next is truly what inspires me. All that pressure and on top of that playing an absolutely amazing player who is beasting right at the time playing at his top level and yet STILL keeps his motivation going. Wang Liqin is just super determined and wants the title so bad he starts beast himself playing at his top level. The match becomes so explosive with both players cheering hard and loud fighting fighting fighting. Pulling out the trump cards.
Ma Lin can feel Wang Liqin now has the game to win but refuses to let it be. But Wang Liqin goes all Bruce Lee and shows the world how much he wants it.
The 7th and final set was just so electrifying and extremely tense and entertaining to watch that my heart began to skip beats, my palms sweaty, throat dry and ready to scream.
Wang Liqin is victorious. His passion truly shows just how happy he is winning the gold for the 3rd time. He goes down in history and becomes a legend.

This is my fav. video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPuaJIvkU08&feature=related
Reasons :
1. Innovation captured in the video, it is not just the forehand to forehand rally that we see but rather the genius of the top guys in those rare moments

2. It has managed to include the rare defining moments in TT ( if you are a youtube follower and an amateur like me :) ) .. waldner playing the "no look" shot , Kreanga playing successive round the table back hand loops

.. And seriously how many videos do you see where Timo plays twice with both hands , really !!!

Pretty epic match, watching the video should speak for itself. Kreanga was my first idol in table tennis, his backhand just amazed me and I couldn't stop watching it. This video features it very well, along with many other incredible rallies. The second to last of the video is amazing. In this year, both Primorac and Kreanga were still in their primes, showing both of them at the top of their games. I've always tended to be more of a fan of watching European players, and this game really blew me away. Though Kreanga has fallen off the radar now and I don't follow him as closely, this is still a great walk down memory lane. Primorac was one of the few greats who truly utilized the backhand serve, and over the years I've incorporated it to become a major part of my service game.

Here's my entry. An epic match from the 2001 World Team Championships. It's China vs South Korea in the semi final. It's 2-2 and the deciding match is being played between Liu Guozheng (whatever happened to him?) and Kim Taek Soo. Liu saves 7 match points during the match, and fought to 25-23 point victory in the deciding game to give China the win. The passion shown by the teams and crowd is immense. I'm pretty sure I remember reading somewhere that a Korean fan had a heart attack during the match because it was so intense. Enjoy!

I chose the Joo vs. Kong Linghui match and the Kenta vs. Ma Lin match.
The first one because of the impressive shots and the outstanding movement by Joo and the second one because of its amazing rallies and the great blocking by Kenta.

Since I was one of the Kenta/Ma Lin reviewers, and pointed out the discrepancy with reposts, what does that mean? o_O

I posted the full match video, and actually posted a review with it, so are you referring to my post?

I'm not, because you unfortunately were the third person who suggested it and I think only the first member who did goes into the draw.
Dan sent me 5 matches out of this thread and I were supposed to pick my 2 favourite ones..
For further information just ask Dan. :P
