--- Ma Long tops the August Rankings ---

Ma Long is dominating as usual and added another title to his collection last month. Which one? Check out this month's review below. :)

June has been the month of resting especially for a lot of European players, however there were still some big competitions including the Asian Championships, the US Open and the Summer Universiade!

The Asian Championships have been dominated by the Chinese the past years despite of the big amount of countries and the variety of players participating. One player managed to damage this domination a bit by reaching the semi-finals in the men's singles event: Japan's Kenta Matsudaira defeated Fan Zhendong who first reached the top 10 of the world in the previous rankings. Kenta then lost honorably to the Asian Champion of 2013, Ma Long. Surprising was Yan An, who defeated World no.2 Xu Xin in the other semi-final, earning him an 8th place behind a solid top 7 this month.

The Women's event, as predicted, ended up in another Ding Ning-Liu Shiwen final which was won by Liu Shiwen. Bronze went to Zhu Yuling and Chen Meng, of which the latter jumped to a 7th spot on the list.

Eugene Wang and Abe Megumi - US Open 2013 winners - Photos by: ITTF

European players such as Primorac, Lundqvist, Samara and Pota formed the top seeds at the US Open 2013 however the titles were distributed against the odds; only Elizabeta Samara managed to reach the final. Just like the North Americas she had big problems with Abe Megumi's special gameplay and services. Japan's Abe grabbed the title rather easily.

Canada's Eugene Wang had reached the final in the men's event and also had to play a somewhat "less-known" player. Yang Ce of China, an unranked player, had to take home the silver medal but did enter the rankings at the 116th place.

Liu Yi and Che Xiaoxi - Summer Universiade 2013 winners - Photos by: ITTF

A less-known event but with very decent players is the Summer Universiade, held in Kazan, Russia. Competitors include young players like Koki Niwa and Chen Chien-An.
While Chinese Taipei and Russia shared most of the prizes in doubles, China seemed to care more about the singles and team event. Both the men's and women's final were all-Chinese, with defender Liu Yi defeating Shang Kun and Che Xiaoxi beating Zheng Shichang. All four made great jumps as shown below.

I have a feeling Ma Long will stay at the top for a long time now. I think he will have high levels of motivation and really try to prove his worth now as he didnt manage to win the 2013 WTTC which many people were expecting.

I'm looking forward to the China Open! It's a shame ZJK cannot be there but still many other top players are participating! :)

It's better that one of top 4 players don't play, great chance for other players to make something
