Is it illegal to stamp your foot while serving?

I think it also helps rhythm wise. They don't do it for every serve, but some serves stamping your feet helps coincide with your wrist flick. It is kind of absurd that people have complained about stamping to you Charlie, I mean they should get over it. It doesn't affect the game that much, they really should be concentrating on other things in a match.

it's legal, there was a controversy at us nationals in 2010, in the semifinals of mens singles a player stomped his feet on a lob, the umpire called let on a good point, and the ump got an earful for it. bad calls are pretty typical in the us, where good umpires are few, but it goes to reinforce that it is legal.

Doesn't it also help you generate speed or spin depending on how you contact the ball because it helps you get your body behind the motion of your serve? Kind of like how the power of a good loop comes from the legs and hips not from the arm swing.

Having not played for 8 years or so and now having to play some 14 year old up-starts with some ability, it is quite handy to stamp and look like heavy chop serve but is really a float. love the look on their faces when the ball goes long.

Stamping is a leftover from hardbat days. Experienced players could tell whether it's heavy or light spin from the sound of the ball striking the bat. One can't judge spin from the sound when using a sponge bat so it's not necessary these days. But many players still keep the habit.
