Both have amazing backhands, and have better ability to convert from a defensive position to an offensive one when they are far from the table by unleashing a powerful backhand.

But I think I am going to go against the grain and actually say I would prefer ZJK's backhand. In terms of all around utility I think ZJK's backhand is better. Ma Long away from the table probably is slightly more consistent with his power backhand, but in terms of short game and flipping, ZJK's backhand is out of this world. He is able to use it so effectively and in so many different situations, and he gets so more spin with it than Ma Long or any other player out there.

scylla I think you are right that Zhang's bh is better near the table , flip etc. but in my eyes this can be a disadvantage, sometimes he is with is backhand so deep in his forehandside I wonder how he can return the next ball in a good position when a chinese compatriot stroke the flip back :)
Well, however, he can return it somehow

Yeah, I have tried emulating his flip and trying to do that thing where he goes far to his forehand to use his backhand, but its so hard to do it at any consistent level. His backhand flip is so fast, and so spinny that generally the only thing his opponent can do is to block it back, so at least thus far, it hasn't been a disadvantage for him.

yeah, you both right, but his flip of ZJK's need alot of training and a fresh rubber to burden well, maybe 2 hours every day to get it.
but there is some thing important, when someone play him serve to his forehand ZJK offensive his serve with backhand flip, so that need high speed to get back to right position.

Zhang Jike. Ma Long has a great backhand, but Zhang's is just that much better though. It's more all rounded and versatile.

According to chinese coaches, ZJK backhand is better but MaLong forhand is very much better. LGL did say that European has the best backhand. Thus when chinese played with European, all their focus will be on their forehand vs european backhand. This is what you can see when they played against Timo.

what does "check-hand of them its penhold" mean?

Even if LGL says that Europeans have better backhands, I don't know if I can really agree with that. For overall purposes, I would prefer the less flashy, Chinese backhand that focuses on hitting the ball as earlier as possible in order to give the opponent less reaction time, to the more powerful backhand that a lot of Europeans have, which are used a bit farther from the table.

Well I think maybe is talking about those powerful backhands that a lot of Europeans do even when they are pushed far off from the table. Chinese players generally play it safe and half lob it back if they are back from the table and pressured on their backhand. But a lot of European players like Kreanga, Bastian, and Mattenet just unleash giant backhands that are usually good at getting back on the table. Ma Long and Zhang Jike are just starting to get good at that.

But yeah in terms of general use, when they are closer to the table, Chinese backhands are far superior.
