Are the WTTC and World Cup also broadcasted live by Skysports? Someone must be hardcore funding this sport. It's getting more and more popular here in the Netherlands as well.

Ah I just checked and saw that the company that hosts this is the company that's behind PDC darts and World Snooker. That explains things. :)

Why do you call it "ping pong"?
what's the difference from this tournament for the others?

In this tournament, they use rackets with sandpaper on both sides instead of rubber. It's really amazing how much grip they can get on the ball without digging into any sponge! :p

It's actually a very common thing here in the Philippine table tennis scene, as rubber tends to be quite expensive for most people, especially kids.

The organizers have to call it "ping pong" instead of "table tennis" to avoid repercussions for participating players. Apparently, ITTF had officially threatened to ban any professional table tennis player from participating in events run/sanctioned by ITTF (Olympics, pro tours, world cups, world championships, etc) if they enter any event called "world championship of table tennis" (or anything similar) that is not run by ITTF. Basically, "world table tennis championship" is an ITTF trademark or something along these lines ...
