how good is Zhai ? Just looked him up he doesn't seem to have a world ranking. Waldner no longer has an active world ranking, it expired. Also some great players just don't have one like Wang Xi.

Zhai Yujia's technique and game gives me the feelling that he's a China province team player, who left China to play in Europe. Look at what I found when I googled his name:

He seems to have played the Chinese nationals in 2012.

I think Waldner did pretty well losing "only" 2-3 to him.

Even when he was young and at his peak, Waldner was never known for great footwork. His touch, gameplay and tactical nous forced his opponents to place the ball where he wanted it, and was ready for it.

Im sorry to correct you, but in his younger days JO Waldner was actually known for good footwork as he had to move a lot because of his low height, OFC thats a long time ago but yeah, when he first got into the Swedish Top Division he was known for good footwork. At least thats what Ive seen in Swedish interviews :)

Hi Anders, you don't have to be sorry to correct me)) I appreciate your views and happy to stand/be corrected) however, I still stick to my original statement, yes, Waldner moved better when he was younger, but, imho, his footwork even then, left much to be desired - compared to people like Gatien etc at that time. His strengths lay elsewhere, again, imho )

OCF other players had better footwork after some years, but the Gatien era? It was during the early 90's.. I was talking about Waldner having to move fast in his early years, like the late 70's and early 80's.. But I also aggree with you, Waldner didn't need such amazing footwork because of his amazing feeling and skills to read the game :)
