Interesting moves there. It is a shame Chuang Chih Yuan is leaving the German League! I am looking forward to seeing out Patrick Baum will get on with his transfer to Fulda.

This is interesting. To my understanding, Chinese Taipei (or as they call themselves - "Republic of China") doesn't recognize People's Republic of China, or vice versa (The Chinese don't recognize Taiwan's independence and claim sovereignty over Taiwanese soil). So how exactly are they going to handle formalities? Is Chuang going to be treated as a foreigner and granted a workers permit, or will they treat him as a national?

Chuang has played in China before, just like other Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) players, especially the juniors who play in Jia A and Jia B
You would require a special pass (applies for any HK or Taiwan citizen) to enter China.
They are foreigners, just like HK players.

Your "political" understanding "issue" has been resolved many years ago already, and direct flights and travel is very normal today for ordinary people.
So this is really common.
I doubt the table tennis people are even bother about this issue. Chinese Taipei, HK, and other asian countries juniors (korea, Japan, PRK etc) always have tons of juniors playing in the Chinese leagues.

No probs

CCY also trained with many provincial teams since his youth.
He even entered CNT B team as as Chinese provincial team player.
Soon after CCY beat Ma Lin, WLQ on the world tour (pro tour that time), CCY was "banned" from training inside China.
CCY actually did still train in some places using another persons name (still entered China with his own - and he is still alive :) )

Nowadays CTTA is really open.
Egyptian national team took part in Jia A (Organised by Shaanxi province head coach - his student is the current Egyptian head coach) last year.
There is a American team registered in Jia A, with some American Chinese player, TPE and HK players in there.
Russian junior team too

Many European too.
TPE has over 10 players in Chinese leagues.
HK has plenty too
Over 10 Japanese juniors too (while Japan media news covered the pulled out the super league players for political and player safety reasons.... - yeah right)
North Korea and Korea also have plenty
I think overall, I counted close to 100 foreigners in Chinese leagues from Super, Jia A, Jia B, Jia C, Jia D, Yi A mens and womens league.

Very interesting changes indeed! Quite a lot of players change from teams they have played in for years as Steger or Baum...

Good point. I wonder what causes these changes. Who approaches them for the change etc.

With Baum and Düsseldorf it is a clear thing. His performance was not good and his body language and fighting spirit in the matches was terrible in the important games. So Düsseldorf looks for other good players who can replace him. And of course they are interested in Patrick Franziska (same strategy with e.g. Timo Boll, Christian Süß and Patrick Baum).
