Hey Everyone!

Last weekend on the 9th and 10th of August 2014, TopSpinSports (http://www.topspintt.com/) had the pleasure to have the worlds greatest players, Jan ove Waldner and Jorgen Persson open their new 24/7 Central London Table Tennis venue, Fusion TTC. As Waldner and Persson were visiting one of the TopSpinSports sponsored clubs (Batts TTC), TableTennisDaily's @Dan managed to get a 1 set match with the greatest table tennis player of all time, Jan Ove Waldner, as he accepted my challenge after an interview we took.

It was a lot of fun, Jan Ove Waldner is an amazing man who is very generous and gives back to the community.

Check it out, Waldner vs Dan here!

Thanks to TopSpinSports in making this trip happen! What an experience to be up and personal with the worlds greatest table tennis player! Waldner was using the Donic Bluefire M2 rubber which you can buy on TopSpinSports website here. (http://www.topspintt.com/products/rubbers/287/bluefire-m2-rubbers)

Nice! Great oppurtunity to play with player like this. You can see that as Waldner is quite old he hasnt so quick movement but what a sureness in his strokes! And what a serve - It is very difficult to read - you could see Dan couldnt recognise in one serve if it is backspin or topspin and I think its great experience to play with Player who was one of the best in the world, isnt it Dan?
It is great you could try it! :D (y)

That was awesome, and you could tell he wasn't even trying 100%, but it was nice that he didn't just play at your level. At the first part of the match it was crazy. Seeing his ability against a very good player like yourself was fun to watch.

Yeah this is one of the biggest things I took from playing against Waldner. The disguise on the ball is crazy. It just seemed everything came back with interest. His service produced so much spin, either backspin or topspin with minimal effort.

He almost aced me at one point, the serve looks like its going to my backhand but it goes down the line. Amazing experience!

Yeah the first 5 points I had no chance. It was horrendous haha. He then took it down a gear for me after that. I am glad I could share it with you Rory :)

I know how it feels to be so lucky, because I have practiced with Schlager for almost 2 hours. When he started to serve I didn't look any better than you, so I know how it feels. + All the time you feel the pressure because you are afraid. But later it feels like dream came true :D

Those serves are outrageous man.
You wouldn't know if it was New York or New Year after facing that!
You are luckier than a big bag of lucky things on the lucky shelf in the lucky shop mate.
Well in! 😁

Amazing to have experienced that I guess. You're definitely lucky to play the number 1 player in the world. Imagine this: Not even the nowadays top 20 had the honor of being tricked by the master himself ;)

Hey John and Juan. I think @MDanielCRO nailed it. You feel like your completely under pressure all the time. Jan Ove mixed it up so much that he tied in pieces and I was literally then just thinking, dam I just want to get the ball on the table :)

The spin is unbelievable! His spin is so much more stronger because of his deception in his shots. So your not able to read it well. If you notice some of the forehands he does have extreme side spin, so when I do my conventional block, the ball just directed to the left/right of the table and missed.

Being in front of him, it was actually very fun. He was very warming and friendly so I think he made me feel comfortable. We joked just before we started the knock because he took his jacket off, and I said, oh it's getting serious now! :) Jan Ove also pointed to the camera just before we started and laughed to get ready.

It sure was an amazing opportunity and one I will never forget. Jan Ove Waldner and Jorgen Persson are the coolest double act I have ever met and seen! They are incredible!

Hmm I am a little but when you are in the room with them for a few hours you sort of hone in on it all. They were very relaxed guys to so I felt comfortable. I was still nervous, but it was a lot easier than expected. It was an honour to knock with my idol.

Hi Dan. What happened at the 2:26 mark? Did he actually manage to put topspin with that motion or disguise underspin or did you make an error?

Do you mean when I served? Yh I put topspin on that serve i disguised it. I think Waldner was lucky to let that land on the table as he mis read the spin but it just landed in. I think right on the last minute he saw it was a topspin serve so he pushed it a little lightier so the ball would land in the table.
