Cool video, and great explanation of him. Nice to see pro's sharing. I do these serves a lot in my play, but with this quality, I highly doubt it.
Mostly like the training hall/redecorated primary school. Imagine playing there with a wall in your back at 4ft from the table.

Without the slow motion, I can hardly distinguish the spin. Now I know the secret. It's the point of contact! The difference is in the point of contact!
Really Cool!!!

How can you generate top spin on a serve without the upward motion? Surely that bat angle isn't enough, or is this just another penholders advantage?

You can see pretty clearly especially in the slow mo that he goes up.

The bat doesn't need to go up to generate top spin

The contact point of the bat on ball need to be on the upper half of the ball, compared to under spin - which is the lower half of the ball
In this video, the top spin is on the side upper half of the ball

Practice each service 30 mins every day (so total 1 hour a day), and after a few months, then come back and ask more questions if you still don't understand :p

I think this is definitely one of the few advantages (though may not be very much) of penholder style---more deceiving, a bit more spinny...

Wow, the table is so glossy, is it made of glass? O.O
