Comparing it to Jun Mizutani in the WTTC 2011 training hall!

Yea it is incredible how much difference there is in techniques. Even within the Chinese team, where u would say everyone trains after the same vision of technique. It's really what makes our sport the best in the world and makes any game a new match. :D

This comes from playing Ultimate (Frisbee), but on forehands, Mizutani's elbow stays almost entirely in place (almost against his body). Ma Long's elbow is away from his body, (at least in Ultimate, that means you can generate a lot more power). Also it looks to me like Mizutani is hitting from behind the ball, and Ma Long is lifting the ball more and playing a significantly more powerful shot.

Ma Long catches the ball way earlier, his stroke goes more forward and there is plenty of up. Jun Mizutani seems to be catching the ball late while it has started to drop and it is in line with his body not in front of him. You get a lot less power from that contact. That seems almost old school.

Ma Longs topspin looks more fluent than Mizutanis and he looks much more relaxed.
Watch where the stroke ends by both players
so much differences in tt even between the pros

I agree:)
Thanks a lot for this interesting video Dan;-)
Ma Long's FH is amazing!
The European players have short and limited movements, with a very small participation of the shoulder and of the trunk.Ma Long,Wang Liqin etc have large movements.
