After a dramatic round 4 we have our Olympic men's singles quarter finalists. Ma Long survived an early scare after going 2-0 down to an in form Jeoung Youngsik, coming back and winning 4-2. Marcos Freitas cruised into the quarter finals smoothly dispatching Ukranian Lei Kou in straight sets. The Olypmpic Champion Zhang Jike also looks to be in peerless form beating, giant killing, Adrian Crisan 4-0.

Home town favourite Hugo Calderano's Olympic dream came to a halt as he lost in a very competitive 4-2 match against heavy favourite Jun Muzutani. The Brazilian crowd's incredible, 6000 strong, support stayed with him throughout though and really created an amazing atmosphere. An even closer match was had between Japan's Koki Niwa and Hong Kong's Wong Chun Ting, with Koki Niwa taking the win 11-8 in a nail biting 7th set decider.

Paul Drinkhall almost had an incredible come back against Vladimir Samsonov after being 3-0 down and saving 7 match points in the 4th set. However in the end the experience of the Belorussian legend proved too much, with the Brit eventually losing 4-2. Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Bojan Tokic ended 4-1 in favour of the German. What that match score line doesn't tell you however, is that the first set ended up taking 64 points to finish with Tokic finally closing it out 33-31. In the longest single set we can remember since the first to 11 rule came into place.

The shock result of the 4th round no doubt came in the form of Timo Boll crashing out, losing to Nigerian star Quadri Aruna 4-2. Timo Boll went 3-0 down and like Drinkhall appeared to be staging a come back winning the next two sets but wasn't enough to stop the passionate African taking the 6th set 11-9. We now await the Quarter finals on Wednesday the fixtures and times of which can be seen below.
