Lin Gaoyuan in the Final of the Men's Singles

In the men’s event, the Chinese completely dominated with Simon Gauzy being the only non-Chinese player to reach the semi-finals after beating Hugo Calderano in the quarter finals in a great match. However, the Frenchman was convincingly beaten by an in-form Lin Gaoyuan 4-1 in the first Semi-final. The other semi-final matchup between Chinese players Fang Bo and Yan An turned out to be an epic 7 set thriller with Yan An coming back from 2-3 down to win 4-3.

This set up an intense final matchup between An and Gaoyuan which Gaoyuan managed to win 4-1. The 4-1 score line was quite flattering however, as 4 out of the 5 sets all went to deuce. This Chinese 1-2 was replicated in the Women’s singles with Wang Manyu winning the final easily by beating her compatriot Gu Yuting 4-0. Xue Fei was victorious in the men’s under 21’s singles beating Korea’s Cho Seungmin 3-1 in the final and Zhang Rui won the women’s under 21 singles beating Japans Maeda Miyu 3-0 in the final.

The only event the Chinese team didn’t manage to win was the men’s doubles event where top seeds Fang Bo and Zhou Yu were defeated by the German pairing of Ricardo Walther and Ruwen Filus 3-2 in the semi-finals. However, the German’s couldn’t carry this form through to the final where they were soundly beaten 3-1 by Japans Koki Niwa and Jin Ueda.
