Aruna made his way to the finals early on day three by beating Kazakhstani player Kirill Gerassimenko 3-0 in the first semi-final. In the final the Nigerian met Japanese star Kaii Yoshida who was in some great form of his own, beating German player Benedikt Duda in the second semi-final.

The final itself was exceptional with both players trading alternative sets until the 6th set where Quadri Aruna was able to break the chain by winning the game 14-12 and therefore the match 4-2. (11-7, 11-13, 11-8, 6-11, 11-8, 14-12). With the Japanese penholder having to settle for the silver.

In the women’s event Yoshida’s Japanese compatriot, Mima Ito went one better by claiming the gold medal by beating Saki Shibata in an all Japanese affair. The final itself was pulsating with some incredible rallies between the two players, however it was Mima Ito who came out victorious beating Shibata 4-1 (11-7, 11-9, 5-11, 13-11, 12-10). What a tournament for the Japanese team!
