Currently standing at no.3 on the ITTF Men’s World Ranking list, 22 year old Zhang Jike won the Men’s Singles title at the Chinese National Championships, which concluded on Sunday 10th October 2010.

At the final hurdle he beat Qiu Yike and in so doing, he retained the title won twelve months earlier.

Success for Zhang Jike, who has now established himself as an integral member of the Chinese National Team, and in the Women’s Singles success for a player very much in the same situation.

Ding Ning, 20 years old and presently listed at no.6 on the ITTF Women’s World Rankings emerged as the champion. She beat Cao Zhen in the final.

World Champions Succeed
Singles gold for Zhang Jike and Ding Ning in what must rate as one of the most difficult tournaments to win but in the doubles events they were not to feature in the finals.

Ma Long and Wang Hao won the Men’s Doubles crown overcoming Chen Qi and Fang Bo in the final with Women’s Doubles crown going the way of Guo Yue and Li Xiaoxia, the reigning World champions.

At the final hurdle, they defeated teenagers Cao Lisi and Chen Meng.

Mixed Doubles
Runners up spot for Chen Qi in the Men’s Doubles event and it was the same in the Mixed Doubles; partnering Liu Shiwen, the pair suffered at the final hurdle against Wang Hao and Mu Zi.

The Chinese National Championships over, next on the agenda for the nation’s leading players will be the Liebherr Men’s World Cup in the German city of Magdeburg from Friday 29th to Sunday 31st October 2010, followed by the Asian Games.

Liebherr Men’s World Cup
Ma Long and Wang Hao will be on duty in Magdeburg, whilst following the conclusion of the Chinese National Championships, the players who will represent China at the Asian Games in Guangzhou were announced.

Strong Line Up for Asian Games
Furthermore, the Chinese have selected a powerful outfit for a multi sport event rated only second in size to the Olympic Games.

Wang Liqin, Ma Lin, Zhang Jike, Wang Hao and Ma Long are the players who comprise the men’s squad, whilst for the women it is Liu Shiwen, Ding Ning, Guo Yan, Guo Yue and Li Xiaoxia.

Ma Long and Wang Hao will play in the Men’s Singles event; Liu Shiwen will compete in the Women’s Singles competition.

Only two players from any one country may play in the singles events. The one remaining Women’s Singles place is yet to be decided.

Hong Kong Selection
Similarly, Hong Kong China has named their line up.

The men’s contingent will be Ko Lai Chak, Li Ching, Cheung Yuk, Tang Peng and Jiang Tianyi with the women’s representatives being Jiang Huajun, Tie Yana, Lin Ling and Yu Kwok See.

Gold in the singles events will be a tough task against with the likes of China, Japan and Korea being present but doubles gold is a more than a realistic possibility with a new partnership in more ways than one taking to the stage.

Newlyweds
In the Mixed Doubles event, Tang Peng will partner Tie Yana for the first time in an international event; a new partnership and they are also newly married!

Could a ring of gold be the end result?

Dates of Games
The Asian Games begin in the Chinese city of Guangzhou on Friday 12th November and conclude on Saturday 27th November; the table tennis events will be held from Saturday 13th to Saturday 20th November 2010.
