Ma Long and Sun Yinsha Crowned Champions of 2020 World Table Tennis Macao

The RESTART of table tennis took place last week in Macao, one of the most anticipated table tennis events of all time, World Table Tennis! WTT Macao was set up as an exhibition event to test out the latest World Table Tennis innovations! This ground breaking event has a prize pool of $800,000!

On route to the final Ma Long began his campaign in the new WTT innovation the Top Four Seed Battle. This battle decides who plays who in the quarter final stages, the player who comes top of the top 4 seeded battle has first choice on who he would like to play in the quarter final stages.

In the seeded battle Ma Long took out Lin Gaoyuan (3-5, 5-2, 5-2, 5-2) and lost to Xu Xin (5-1, 2-5, 4-5, 5-3, 2-5). Ma Long chose Jeoung Youngsik as his quarter final opponent.

The quarter finals of WTT Macao are best of 5 games. Ma Long and Jeoung Youngsik went to the wire with Ma Long coming out on top 3-2.

The semi final stages are best of 7 games in WTT. Ma Long eliminated Lin Gaoyuan 4-1 to set up an all Chinese final against team match Wang Chuqin. Now something that was very unique to this event was the final being best of 9 games which you can watch below!

In the Women's Singles event Sun Yingsha lost both who Top Four Seed Battle matches to Ding Ning and Wang Manyu. This meant Sun did not have the chance to choose who quarter final opponent. In the quarters Yingsha defeated Wang Yidi to set up a crazy semi final encounter.
In the semi final Yingsha made an epic comeback after being 3 games to 1 down to face Chen Xingtong in the final!
