The World University games began last week on the 12th August and are expected to finish on the 23rd of August. The games are held in Shenzhen China with the men's/women's already played. The results are below.

Mens Team Event


The World University games mens team event final got under-way with two very powerful teams! The men's team final was between China and Japan.

The Chinese team was a strong side including national team players Xu Xin, Yan An and Fang Bo. In the opening match Xu Xin and Yan An eased through their two matches to take a 2-0 advantage over their opponents.

The third match of the night was Xu Xin and Fang Bo in the doubles. As strong as this team may sound, the determined Japanese pairing defeated the two duos to make the match score 2-1.

Chinese main man Xu Xin stepped up for the fourth match and secured a 3-1 victory over Japanese Hitoshi Ueda to secure the Gold medal for the Chinese team.


Womens Team Event

Similar to the men' team final the women's team final had similar outcomes. The final was between China and Japan. The Chinese team contributed of Fan Ying, Rao Jingwen and Ma Yuewen.

In the opening match Fan Ying faced Yuka Ishigaki. It was a close encounter with Fan Ying just winning the match 3-1 giving the first point for China.

In the second match of the night Chinese star Rao Jingwen defeated here Japanese oppeonet by games games to 0 with the last set being 12-10. China were now in a 2-0 lead.

The third match was as always the doubles match. The Chinese pair choosen were Rao Jingwen and Ma Yuewen. China had their eyes on the gold and focussed throughout the whole match to defeat their hard fought oppoents 3-0.

The Chinese women's team claimed gold in the World University Games Championships 2011.
