Bastian Steger defeats Timo Boll

Surprised? Yes the title is true. Bastian Steger defeated Timo Boll in round 2 DTTL 2011-2012 season. Thus Bastian aided a point for his Saarbrucken team. The Saarbrucken team went on to demolished the German Champions Borussia Dusseldorf by 3 matches to 0!

The Saarbrucken team were on fire and each player did there absolute best in winning this match up!

In the opening match Saarbrucken’s Joae Monteiro defeated Patrick Baum by 3 games to 0. This was a surprise defeat itself until the second match was played. Joao Monteiro beat Patrick Baum with scores (11-8, 11-6, 11-9).

In the second match Borussia Dusseldorf’s Timo Boll took to centre stage. He took of to a flying start against Bastian Steger with a 2 games to 1 lead. Bastian fought on winning the fourth game 15-13. Bastian Steger maintained this momentum and achieved one of the biggest results of his career and for his club. Bastian Steger beat Timo Boll with scores (11-8, 3-11, 2-11, 15-13, 11-9)

The third match of the night was between Borussia Dusseldorf’s new signing Jakab Janos vs Bojan Tokic. Bojan Tokic beat Janos Jakab by 3 games to 1 with scores (8-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-7).

This is funny... When you count points from whole match Steger vs. Boll, you get: 42:51 ..So it was really lucky that Steger won, achieving 9 points less than Boll, hehe..

That's just what happens when you win sets by a large margin. It happens in table tennis and tennis all the time. I wouldn't call it luck.

That is a real big deal, but prolly not too surprising to Timo, who prolly saw this coming for a while.

Actually points don't really matter when it comes to winning a match. The 42-51 deficit just shows that Bastien had some major momentum while Timo played a consistent, but less quality game. He never stepped up his game which is the reason he lost. I say great for Bastien and luck had nothing to do with it.
