The European Table Tennis Championships has took of to a flying start with some incredible performances on day 1. One performance in particular was England's Liam Pitchford.

Liam Pitchford produced the win of his career today at the Intersport European Championships in Gdansk-Sopot, Poland. Liam defeated Vladimir Samsonov by 3 games to 2. The young England player is 260 places behind Samsonov in the ITTF World Rankings. This fine performance however did not see England defeat Belarus as Paul Drinkhall and Daniel Reed couldn't quite beat their opponents.

Pitchford bt Samsonov 3-2 (11-8, 6-11, 11-8, 4-11, 11-7)

Chtchetinine bt Drinkhall 3-1 (4-11, 13-11, 13-11, 11-6)

Platonov bt Reed 3-1 (8-11, 15-13, 11-9, 11-4)

Samsonov bt Drinkhall 3-0 (11-6, 11-7, 11-6)
