All your usual star names progressed in the Men's Singles at the Asian Championships 2012 today on the 27th February 2012. The top five seeds all Chinese including Ma Long, Zhang Jike, Wang Hao, Xu Xin and Ma Lin all progressed in the second round of this spectacular event. The sixth, seventh and eighth seeds, Jun Mizutani, Seiya Kishikawa and Chuang Chih Yuan all progressed to the third round comfortably.

Number nine seed Gao Ning just scrapped passed in form Sharath Kamal Achanta in an epic encounter. Gao Ning won by four games to three with scores 8-11, 7-11, 12-10, 11-3, 9-11, 11-6 and 11-6. Earlier today Kamal and team mate Saha knocked out Zhang Jike and Ma Lin in the doubles, check it out here

Japan's Kenta Matsudaira caused the biggest upset amongst the top seeds today. Kenta defeated Korea’s Kim Min Seok, the only top sixteen seed to fall at the second round hurdle. In form Kenta who defeated Yang Zi in the team event, overcome Kim by four games to nil with scores: 11-4, 13-11, 11-7, 11-6. Kenta currently World ranked at 45 whilst Kim Min Seok World ranked at 30.

Kenta needs to get a higher level serve, after that, he will be competitive on the highest level... As for now, if you watch him against Ma Long, his serve gives players on Ma's level a LOT of easy points.
